I was interviewed recently for a BBS Documentary and I wore my BRC shirt to get us and RKBA a little more exposure in general.

Should be an interesting documentary once it's finished.  I ran a BBS for five years and met a lot of people through them, including my wife.

Ahhh, the BBS days.  At one point there were at least 35 BBSs in my area.  My dad ran one for 10 years.  I think the last one in my area finally shut down around '96 when the internet craze started building up speed.

Circa 1993 I read an article in the newspaper about how people were calling other people's computers up and chatting and playing games, all kinds of neat crap like that. So I went out and bought a blazingly fast 2400 bps modem and shoved it in my 10 mhz 286, and off I went.

Good Times.

Circa 1986 or so I hooked up a 300 baud modem (BLAZING fast!) to my Atari 800XL and took over the house phone line.  Those was the days...

LOL

I used to run one as well.

Before I quit running it I was running Mustang Software's Wildcat 4 on OS/2.

The cost finally overwhelmed me as I was eventually unemployed (June 1994 - Jan 1996).

If I could have held on I could have eventually offered internet access to my customers and have then it would have paid for itself.

Oh well.......

Wasn't it AMAZING! when 1200 baud machines came out??!!

We had a few old Houston-built Zaisan voice/data terminals and that 1200 modem was the NUTZ! when it came out.

Then we got a couple Tele-Compaq terminals and then the web happened.

I still remember messaging the Far East on a 300 Baud and thinking it was sliced bread.

Oh god!!! That brings back memories!

Actually I think it maybe time to bring back the BBS, with all the censorship that is possibly comming down the pipe on the net.
