Layla, it really applied to the situation. I said goodbye to her Sunday.
But then I moved away almost two years ago.  Tired of it all.

I don't care for that processed sound either. A vintage Strat through a good tube amp is what defined his sound, should stick with it IMHO.

I like Clapton alot. That said, I would make the claim that he is a vastly overrated guitar player. At the same time, I think that he is a vastly underrated songwriter. His junky phase yeilded some great records - Eric Clapton, 461 Ocean,, No Reason To Cry,  Backless, One In Every Crowd - these were truly great records, IMO. He is totally underrated as a songwriter.

The solo in this version of I Shot the Sheriff is amazing.

I've seen Clapton 4 times –– 1988 or '89, 1990, 2006, and last year with Steve Winwood. In one of the first two shows his second guitarist was Mark Knopfler. In 2006 he had Doyle Bramhall III and Derek Trucks in his band. I'll see him the next time he comes to Philly, hopefully next year.

denver CO. Opening act was Robert Cray
Clapton comes out rocks for who knows how long. Sometime in between sets, he introduces the band with Phil Collins on drums (already knew that prior to show)
2nd encore Robert cray joins him on stage, they go to town and kept going.
His collaboration with JJ Cale Ride the River starts off slow and rocks out in a blues /folk sort of way that anyone who i turned on to it asked "Who is that"

Derek & the Dominoes simply for the eclectic mix of artist

The second guitar solo in the live version of Crossroads gives me chills pretty much every
time I listen to it.  The are damn few songs I can say that about.  We can argue all night
about whether he is or isn't one of the best guitar players in rock.  I literally could not care
less.  I'll just be sitting here listening to that because it takes me places.

His version of Worried Life Blues is tops also [the one from Just One Night].

She Walks like a Bearded Rainbow . Clapton, once again tearing it up.

That reminded me –– when I saw him in '06, Robert Cray opened and later joined him on stage for a song or two.

And now, how 'bout some Clapton & Winwood covering Band of Gypsies?

My father is a huge Clapton fan, so me and my brother took him to see EC and Steve Winwood when they did their little 10 show tour in like 2010. We saw them in DC and it was amazing. I bought the CD from the same tour, but at Madison Square Garden for him for Christmas or his birthday. Luckily it was the same setlist so it's like reliving the show each time I listen to that CD.

Now that's funny, because I also took my dad to the Clapton/Winwood show in Philly. I'm the huge fan - my dad grew up on '50s rock and roll, but he had a great time.

This is one of my favorite Cream tunes:
