I remember some rumblings that it was going to come back out a few years ago.

Any insiders have any clue why this didn't happen?

IBT 180b fan bois.

I bought one of the original 180b rifles about 9 years ago, and sold it shortly after.  It was an okay shooter and fairly simple to take down to clean.  The whole plastic lower with break away pivot point thing worried me, but honestly I never had a problem with it.

In the armalite forum, every couple months a new thread pops up asking about the return of the 180. Armalite says it's not in their current plans. *shrug*

And IIRC for about $650 it was a damn decent rifle.  I believe their plan was to re-release the rifle, but at a significantly higher price point ($850-950).  At that point it becomes a direct competitor with the AR15 platform, with which it has zero chance of competing.

I wish they would.  Neat little rifles.

It's a shame they didn't do a sheetmetal lower

Which is funny, because one of the more popular accessories for the AR-15 is an aftermarket operating system which is more or less an AR-180 gas piston system.

Manufacturers got drunk on selling $400 AR15's for $1100 at about the time Armalite said they might re-do the 180. For it to have made sense at the time they would have had to get $15-1700 to divert resources from AR15 production, so it never happened.

You'll get your AR180 when the AR15 thing plays out, which is a sad thing as they are good guns.

I hope we will see them produced again but I doubt it.

Dump the plastic and go with even sheet metal lowers and I'd be interested.

True, but other than sharing a common magazine the parts between the two platforms aren't interchangeable.  There is very little aftermarket support for the 180b, which makes lights, optics, etc a difficult proposition.  There is one fella in the 180 forum that makes quality scope mounts and forends for the 180b though.  Again, that's ONE fella.

The AR-180 is pretty much a DIY rifle, Urban OPs makes all his obscure rifle parts, MI makes a quad rail as well, but primarily people do their own mods or take them to smiths.

There are parts interchangeability between the AR-15, and AR-180B (and even the AR-15 ans some 1t gen 180 parts). In fact, most of the lower parts.

Enjoy mine. Would like to buy a new one with a reinforced poly lower, aluminum lower, or a steel lower.

It's so easy to clean and take down.

Front rails, top rails, folding stocks, telescoping stocks, etc are all available and don't cost much.

Make a few improvements and I'm willing to pay $1K for one.

love mine, but i also love my original 180 also. the front pivot pin does worry me i am very careful cleaning it. i wish the lower would have been sheet metal. or something. but i still do catch my self carrying it allot .
