I keep hearing good things from people I trust about judging games.

The first one was alright.

bazillions of guns

it is a loot based FPS, think a shooter version of diablo

I have a copy, still sealed, on my kitchen table. Can't wait for 5 free minutes to open it.

I've heard it's a lot of fun.

And the weapon variety is MUCH better this time around.

Also, the grenade and shield variety is far superior.

I've been having a blast with it and would highly recommend it.

If you liked the first one, you'll like this one. It's upgraded in basically every way possible.

Better graphics, more random weapon qualities, more class skills, more classes if you count the upcoming mechromancer. Also, the bonus exp challenges from the first game are back, but they also give you Badass Tokens when you beat them. The tokens can be used to upgrade things like weapon damage, reload speed, shield capacity, shield recharge, etc. These bonuses are cumulative through ALL of your characters.

The humor from the first game is still intact, and the storyline seems a lot more coherent than before. Not than anyone plays a shoot 'n loot game for the story.

I highly recommend it to fans of the first game. New players may still like it, but a lot of story references won't make much sense.

If you have friends with the game, playing co-op is really where it's at.

Yeah, if you didn't play through the first game, it is worth doing. I about pissed myself laughing at the line in the opening about the vault being full of tentacles and disappointment.

Some close friends play it with me and they have not played the first one. I do have to explain a few things but they generally are to busy blasting stuff or laughing at some of the quirky bits to care. Guess it depends on what type of player you are. Great game either way though.

My advice:

Go buy the "Game of the Year" edition of the first one that includes all of the DLC. It should be ~$20-30. Start playing. In about 10 days, you'll realize your refrigerator is empty, you've spent a considerable amount of money getting food delivered, and you have voicemails from your employer informing you you're fired. But you won't care. By the time you run out of food completely, you'll realize that you already have BL2 and you've been playing it for days.

At least, that's how I imagine it'd happen to me if I dove into the franchise with 2 titles already being out.

I've got about 50 hours of gameplay on it so far.  If you liked the the first one, you should definitely like this one.

It's addicting. The only thing I didn't like at first is the graphics, they really hurt my eyes. After a few hours of playing and many breaks, it doesn't hurt my eyes anymore, so if that's an issue for you at first, it'll go away soon.
