Is this a desirable feature to car buyers ?
I have a 2010 model and it has it, and I wish it didn't. I don't like the nanny driver BS. Poll incoming |

Doesn't hurt in a normal car... It will hamper douchebag moves if that's your thing. I predict this thread will end up with purist posters saying how they are badasses in complete control, and don't need any software engineers to help. (Right before they wrap themselves around a tree) |

(Right before they wrap themselves around a tree) You are very good at predicting threads. It's been proven that the computer is going to stop and turn the car better than professional drivers. So, I don't think I'm going out on a limb when I say the computer does these things better than pretty much everyone. |

I have traction control. It's always turned off. You? Nope.
This is my daily driver. The idea that I'll need traction control in a FWD, 260 HP car is hilarious to me.

For 98% of people TCS is great. As long as the other 2% can turn that crap off when they want, I don't mind it. I know in my Evo X, with TCS on, I can take a turn with my foot planted on the accelerator and have the computer figure exactly how much power to distribute and which tire to brake to rotate the car without any excess slip angle. Its neat when you don't want to think about what you are doing, or to scare the shit out of someone without any fear of losing control of the car. That being said, when TCS is off I can make the car go around the same turn faster.

For daily driving, I think it's a net-positive. Without question. I would prefer that any car I drive has the ability to disable one or both. The only time I really wish I could disable traction control and stability control in my FJ Cruiser is doing donuts in the snow or mud. 4WD gets the stabilty off, but traction control still there. |
|
Daily driver: I like to have them but be able to turn them off at will.
Sports car: I like to have ABS. Traction control with a toggle switch. But stability is for losers. Track car: Nothing! Period! Racecar: Whatever is fine with me as long as all the other competitors are on equal terms. Even professional drivers panic. They know that threshold braking is the fastest way to stop a car but the second another 3000 pound object is in your path your foot is going to the floor. ABS is always a perk. Especially when you realize that you can threshold brake all you want with or without ABS. |

No, real men don't have ABS or airbags either. Yep, drive fast and take chances. Traction control/slip control comes in handy in places that have that cold white stuff on the ground. I know, I live in ME. I was surprised at how effective the TC and ABS was on my mom's '10 FWD Fusion in the snow. The ABS is much more effective than that in my '94 F150. |

Got news for you in that Front Wheel Drive car Yep. But I have family in the panhandle, so the car has seen snow/mud before. I still prefer it without traction control. I grew up driving vehicles without TC, and it actually makes it harder to drive for me when the car tries to mess things up. Keep in mind, this is a 98. Maybe the TC systems are better now, but that one? |

I left my automotive ego at the door when my son was born (almost 10 years ago).
I now prefer all electronic and computer assisted things in my car. I remember back when I had a manual transmission...sitting in rush hour traffic cursing and damning everyone around me...all the while, my left leg developed much stronger muscles than my right leg from having to push the clutch pedal seven million times a day. Ahhhh...those were the days... Nowadays, I want it all automated. |
|
I use my ABS in the autos often, sometimes just to make sure it's working.
On the bike, I got nothing. Thought about adding an aftermarket TC module to the fuel/ignition management system but haven't. They just recently started offering ABS as an option on sportbikes. |
|
I have an older car and it does not have ABS even.
I have wrecked and ran off the road twice due to snow and hydroplane. It would have saved me. Still I think of it as more things to go wrong. All cars as of the last few years are made with ABS/TC as federal safety standard. |
|
Dunno, don't have either. Have ABS, AWD, and the car is choc full of airbags though.
ETA: I didn't intentionally choose a car without traction or stability control. I got it used for cheap and the previous owner didn't select it as an option. I kinda wish I had it though. |

No, real men don't have ABS or airbags either. I'll add TC/DSC, power windows and sunroof. I must admit, I need my AC My car doesn't have AC and the AC hasn't been functional in my truck since at least 2007. ![]() Wow, hardcore! It's a good pretext for laziness. |

My car has both traction control and stability control. With a manual transmission, I'd see no need for traction control, but since I have the DSG it doesn't always respond exactly how I want, so traction control probably saves some rubber if nothing else. I frequently turn it off but it's really not a big deal either way - I can take it or leave it. I guess it could be handy in the snow, but we don't get snow and I have summer tires anyway.
I cannot turn off the stability control, but honestly I almost never notice it anyway. The only time it really bothers me is when driving on dirt/gravel roads, but I don't do that very often. In general, I think they're both a waste of money, but I'm not complaining. At least on my GTI. I've driven some other cars where I cussed it constantly. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
| It's not a feature that I shop for, but it also won't dissuade me from purchasing a car so long as it can be completely disabled. If it can't be disabled completely, I don't want it. I am well aware that a good performance oriented traction control can make even professional drivers go faster around a track, but I'm not too worried about getting every last tenth out of a car, I'm worried about having fun. |

Nope.
