I honestly, sometimes wish that people here would quit overgeneralizing this city, and the people from it.
Even with all of its problems, the crime, the politicians, it's still where I come from. I lived my first 11 years there, and while it's not a place I personally would live again(well, for starters, it's not easy to afford a house there), it's still home. Not everyone here is a Communist sympathizer. Not every neighborhood is a dead ringer for Mogadishu(some are). You won't get shot, stabbed or jumped at the airport. It's a decent place to visit, terrific place if you're a sports fan(well, except the Cubs ), and yeah, it has its problems, but no less than any other city.
Flame suit is on. |

Quoted:
Shitcago and the adjoining counties should be their own state. It is a damn shame that downstate Illinois residents have to be ruled by such a corrupt government that arises out of the political septic tank that is 'da Region.' There's been talk for a number of years for making everything south of, IIRC, Interstate 55 that is Cook County into another county, but that talk has gone nowhere. |

It wouldn't do the residents of south Cook County any good if they formed their own county. Still too close to the stink. |

I like going there..the restaurants are awesome. Portillo's, The Billy Goat Tavern, Gene and Georgetti's, etc..
The Museums are great.. Live there? Not a chance. I do like going there once a year with my wife when she has to go to a conference. Nice to get away from the kids for 3-4 days. |

Deej,
It is. It sucks there. Nobody on this board would live there. Those that do, put up with it for family, and/or money. My wife had a job offer to triple her income there. Turned it down after a quick tour in the winter. Chicago belongs in a garbagepail. Kthx, DTSX |

OP is right. There are some very nice parts of the city.
I would never live there, but it's my favorite place to take my woman for long weekends of shopping and eating at cool restauraunts. Last time we visited, we stayed at a hotel just south of Lincoln Park. I never felt like I was going to be stabbed by crackheads or abducted by socialist nutbags. |

Just saying..... |

Flame suit is on. Right there is its major failing. Being an enormous metro region around the city itself only exacerbates the problem. |

It's the gov not the people.Love the city and people, but, i have been abused somehow by that corrupt city government every time I visit. They have to learn to live and let live. Every person that drives through pays, or is under threat of payments being taken by fiat. NYC, is the same way.

If I cannot walk around w/my hi cap pistols and have my suppressed SBR sitting next to me in the passenger seat when I take a ride, I will not even consider going to place that forbids me from doing so. As bad as people say Miami is, you can do a cool shit here that you cannot do in many major sities in the NE. Long live the South |
| I was born in a shitty little dump of a town in upstate NY. I am sure there are nice people there, friendly kitty cats and puppy dogs wagging their tails; it's still a shithole and last time I was there they had not yet erected the statue of me that I think would at least draw tourism. |

The corruption that has been tolerated by the residents there has now damaged the entire USA. Fuck that place. |

So you just admitted you would like to kill millions of people including people on this thread and in this forum. Wasn't there a thread in the pit similar to this?
I'm sorry. If given the launch keys, I'd wipe that place off the face of the earth. Nothing personal. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I recently flew through Chicago. Had the looooonnnnnngest damn taxi from the runway to the terminal I have E-V-A-R experienced. Hate that airport. It's worse than DFW. Bought NOTHING while there on layover. Refusing to visit sister & her guy in Gurney over Christmas because I will not spend time there.
Deej, you said it's home. I understand the attachment to 'home'. But that doesn't mean ya have to spend your life near a chithole because of some sentimentality. It can still be remembered fondly as 'home' from anywhere you might choose to live. Oh, it does seem to have more of one problem than any other city...the murder rate is apparently Mogadishu-esque on most any weekend. |

Same here. Born and raised in Rome, NY. I love to go for visits, but there is no way I would ever live there again. Or NY, for that matter. |

Chicago has a lot of great attributes, but I have no interest in going back there until there are some major changes. I try to avoid the whole state as much as I can, even if it means I have to drive a couple hours extra to avoid it.
A lady I used to work for handed a cop a 20 with her license and registration after getting pulled over for supposedly running a red light - he went back to his car and returned a couple minutes later with a 10. You know stuff is messed up when something like that is so commonplace that a cop will make change on a bribe. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Long live the South If you have nothing in your passenger's seat, but you drive your pickup truck down Lakeshore, you can be pulled over, ticketed, possibly arrested. If you park your Tacoma or Ranger on the only available parking out front of your apartment, you can be ticketed, booted, and have your vehicle taken by the city because it's a work vehicle, according to the city. There are plenty of other things that are illegal in Chicago that aren't even gun-related. |

Long live the South If you have nothing in your passenger's seat, but you drive your pickup truck down Lakeshore, you can be pulled over, ticketed, possibly arrested. For a normal pickup truck, I'd counter that it would be highly unlikely. I've driven my truck up and down Lakeshore Dr. all the time and there are plenty of other trucks that drive on Lakeshore. Also, I passed a county sheriff, state police, and CPD in the express lanes, never got pulled over. So, I would say the no truck on lakeshore is more for semi's, flatbeds, etc. If you park your Tacoma or Ranger on the only available parking out front of your apartment, you can be ticketed, booted, and have your vehicle taken by the city because it's a work vehicle, according to the city. If it's not a work truck, it's not true, plenty of Tacomas, Rangers, S10's, and full size trucks park on the street without getting ticketed. You do, though, have to go to your alderman's office to get a parking sticker, which is free, for your vehicle. I think the sticker is bs, I won't be getting one. I've only received a ticket for that once in 10 years and it wasn't even in a neighborhood. It was a $25 ticket, I did not get booted, and I did not get towed. There are plenty of other things that are illegal in Chicago that aren't even gun-related. |
