Does anyone know with certainty if the black wire is fan, and black/white is light fixture, or is it black wire - light fixture, black/white - fan? I'm assuming the former. I have both a Hunter fan and Hunter Universal remote I'm trying to install, and neither makes clear which wire is which. The remote instructions just refer to the "Light Kit" wire and "Fan" wire. The closest the fan instructions come to distinguishing between the two is in the section for "Dual Switch Wiring" (putting the fan and light on separate switches). All it says in that section, verbatim: "Connect the remaining wires as follows: Dual Switch Wiring - The black wire (ungrounded) from the ceiling to the black wire (ungrounded) from the fan - The black / white wire (ungrounded) from the fan to the wire (ungrounded) for the wall switch" How's that for clarity? ETA: I'm assuming black/white is the light kit, but not sure. ETA2: I guess I can hook the wires all up on the ground and check continuity to the light bulb sockets. BRB.... |

Quoted: Usually black for fan, blue for light kit, and white is your nuetral. If your have 2 switches make sure your connect them to the one you want want working either one. Or if you only have one put the black and blue together with the black in the box. Thanks, no blue on this light, just white, black, black/white. I figured it out with a continuity test. |

Just installed a fan last night.
It all depends on how you are powering it up. If you are using the pull switches on the fan for both light and fan, wire the black and blue to the black (hot). If you are using a light switch to control the light only, connect blue wire from fan to the black wire from the independent light switch. If fand and light controlled by two wall switches, connect black wire from fan to the black wire from switch. Connect blue wire from fan to the black wire from the other switch. In all situations, connect wire wire from fan to the white wire from ceiling and green to the ground. |
