Someone here decided that my previous question/post about buying an AR-15 rifle at the Tulsa Arms Show should have been posted in the Oklahoma Hometown forum.  Fine.  But i'm going to ask my question again.  I live in Missouri.  if i buy an Ar-15 from either a dealer or private seller there at the Tulsa show, can i walk out with it?  one of the replies from my first post said i CAN buy it from a dealer and walk out with it but i CANNOT buy it from a private seller and walk.  i'd just like to hear a few more opinions please.  thanks guys.

You can buy it from a dealer but you may not buy from a private seller out of your state of residence.

That's correct... an FFL can sell a long gun (not a handgun or stripped receiver) to a resident of an adjacent state.  A private party cannot.

But how would the authorities regulate sales between individuals. I sold a pistol a few years ago at the Tulsa gun show for cash and have no idea where the person was from. There are literally tons of private sales going on at large shows.

Sold an AR one year at the show to an individual, no idea where he was from.  Did not ask to see ID either...

They cant. But it doesnt make it legal. I can order an 11.5 upper and throw it on a non sbr lower and no one will probably find out, still doesn't mean its a good idea. Guns are a game where you fuck up outside the letter of the law and you can lose your rights to own guns. I dont want to play with that kind of fire.

How do you know its not an ATF or even local LEO pretending to be a private seller, looking for a headline making bust?

If you got cash, you get my stash.

In order for the private seller to break the law he needs to know the person is buying the gun illegally. As long as you don't know and a reasonable person wouldn't know the buyer was prohibited you're fine. It is walking a thin line but legal.
