The last one I was recommended here doesn't seem to be up to par.
http://www.amazon.com/Monitor-Dashboard-VEHICLE-Accident-RECORDER/dp/B005680BX2/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top Not being true HD or not getting plates clear is one thing, but the nighttime performance is just unacceptable. Is this possible under 100$? |

I've been thinking of getting one.
Here is another thread on the subject that I've been watching: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1324314_Anyone_have_a_Dash_Cam_.html |

You're surprised a $30 camera couldn't read license plates? Did you even read the reviews? I just returned a $100 HD camera that you could only see the plates if you were stopped. You get what you pay for...
If you're worried about theft there are more discrete options like the ones where the camera is integrated with your rear view mirror. Those seem less likely to be noticed and stolen so I would be okay with paying a little more for them. Just my two cents... |

i use a go pro with a go pro mount on my dash for when i go offroading. it would make a great dash cam. I use one as well as a dash cam at times, also in the plane. But I think the GoPro setup is outside his desired pricing. VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnTXJXJWXrk

if you want your blood to boil, watch the video if you don't, then forget about it. Otherwise I watched it for you: Clifs Notes: cop harassment caught on driver's dashcam, cop fired. |

I found this site while researching dash cams.
http://dashcamtalk.com/dash-cam-comparison/ I might go with the GS1000 Orange Menu. Their top pick is in the OP's price range. I have no idea how neutral the author of the site is... |
