Basketball Hoops Taken Down In Springfield, N.J.; Some Scream Racism August 28, 2012 10:23 PM SPRINGFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — Young men crowded into town hall on Tuesday night to call foul on officials for effectively squeezing them off the town’s basketball courts. For more than a year, basketball players in Springfield Township have been sidelined, forced onto a half court because the town took down hoops at four different parks after neighbors complained about rowdy behavior, CBS 2′s Jessica Schneider reported. “We got out-of-towners coming here and just me going to the car with my daughters or even taking them for a walk, I got the finger,” Springfield resident Valerie Ahrens told CBS 2′s Christine Sloan on Tuesday. “Thirty guys hanging around urinating on my front lawn,” resident Bob Thompson added. |

In the town I retired from as the popo A couple of basketball nets were put up in the park. The park was pretty nice and a place you could take your kids to and just relax. Soon though people came in and hung around causing problems and complaints. After a while we recommended they be taken down and they were. Oddly enough the problems disappeared over night.

Quite a few community hoops around here have come down. Yep, after a shooting on a public court back in the 70s there were no public courts in my town for years. The hoops came down all over town the next day. The utes did not seem to care for the tennis courts next door. 
The taxpayer can giveth and the taxpayer can damn sure taketh away. No such thing as hoop "rights". The public courts around these days are not in areas where they are close to neighborhoods and are well policed. Other than the odd fight I've not heard of any major issues for years. |

Gangbanger types shooting hoops in neighborhoods they didn't live was normal when I was growing up.
Mostly big assholes, try to start shit with anyone passing by. One fucker (age 20+) threw a beer bottle at me when I was 13. 
I see more bball courts being torn up and replaced by tennis courts these days as a reaction to people playing there at all hours who frequently don't even live in the town or city. |

Yeah, I saw alot of that growing up in Detroit. One time a big kid tried to rob me when I was going home and went by their basketball court. Problem for him is I had a baseball bat and glove with me. 
He wasn't the sharpest knife in the kitchen cabinet. I'll never forget the sound and feel of hitting a human being hard with a baseball bat.
