Depending, it can be CONSIDERABLY less.

There is such a huge variation in Luger pricing, from equal to wartime P.38 levels, up to very nice and clean used car pricing.

There's similar variation in the C96 pricing, but those real collector's pistols, like a large-ring slabside, or factory carbine, generally only turn up at auction, or through specialist dealers.

A decent, shootable pistol that should have all numbered parts matching will start (at online auction) in the $800-1000 range, and climb from there, depending on overall condition, how clean the bore is, accessories, etc.

You can do better than this, substantially better, by hitting your local gunshow events and shopping around, just like panzersergeant.

With Broomhandles, just like Lugers or any other design from that era, educating yourself FIRST is the best possible thing you could do.  Then, insist on disassembling the pistol, which can be done without tools, BEFORE you lay out any cash.  Certain areas on the Broom do not display wear/cracks/peening, etc., unless the pistol is stripped.  The bolt stop is a perfect example of this situation, and many of them are cracked by shooters who don't bother to replace old springs before they go shooting.  Having the bolt stop fail can turn your $1500 beauty into a non-matching parts gun in one magazine's time.

The FAQ page linked in the other thread is a great place to start.

If you look, you'll see the date 1896 on the front of one of the town buildings. That's the exact year the c96 came out.

That was a Bergmann, contemporary and competing design to the C96.

No that was a P-38 made up by the prop dept. to "look like" a Bergmann.

If so, I stand corrected!

Would make sense; Bergmanns were then, as now, scarce, and I'll bet it would have been a nightmare to get one to work at all with blanks.

I never knew it, until last month I found a copy of "Big Jake" on DVD at Wally World. It is one of my favorite JW movies so of course I had to buy it. During the scene where the son shoots and they all dive into the creek, I thought the pistol looked odd. So being a gun nut I had to know, pausing and slow scan forward, I could tell it was a P-38 with chunks of metal(?) added to it to give it the rough shape of a Bergmann. Main thing I noticed first was the P-38 slide mounted safety.

I think I would rather have a P-38 than either the Broomhandle or the Luger but would rather have a Broomhandle than a Luger.

Here is a really cool link to a DYI gunsmithing forum where a guy is building a .22 blowback pistol designed to look like a real Bergmann.

Don't remember where I read it, but I am under the impression that the broomhandle Mauser was grandfathered and NFA pistol+buttstock rules don't apply. I am sure someone here knows and please don't take my word for it as penalties are harsh.
