There was a story a few years ago that the US Army cooperated in making the movie allowing it to be filmed at Ft Knox. Afterwards there was a backlash from the Army brass because it made the leadership look like a joke.

That had a lot to do with the Army refusing to help with Heartbreak Ridge. Of course the Marine PR department jumped all over that and then we had a movie about the Marines invading Granada instead of the 82nd Airborne.
