The other day I was placing an order for mylar bags off of Amazon.

A window popped up and asked me if I would like Free 2 day delivery on the bags, if so, click here to find out more.

I made the mistake of clicking and found out that they were offering a free, 30 day trial of their Prime service.  I said sure, why not, it's free.

Well, over the past 24 hours, I have made 6 orders and spent well over $350.

Prime is the evil.

It was nicer when I didn't have to pay state sales tax... but if the end price is the same as something bought locally, I can save myself the hassle of driving around a lot to go get it.

Set up price drop alerts on camelcamelcamel. It's the only way I shop

Yes, Prime is the devil.
But well worth the fee if you order a bunch of stuff.

I order a lot of stuff I don't feel like making a special trip out to a store I might not normally go.

Yesterday was Hawaiian red salt, and Sichuan peppercorns.

I worked 12-hour day shift Monday and Tuesday.

Toilet flapper was leaking on one of my toilets last Saturday night, ordered two through Amazon with Prime for the price delivered of slightly more than just one would cost.

Installed Wednesday...  Best deal yet!

I built a pretty nice box of emergency first aid and medical supplies.  I buy all my Christmas and birthday gifts on Prime.  Books. Tools.  Kitchen supplies; both food and non-food.  Movies.

If you get the Amazon Visa card, you get 3% back on purchases fulfilled by Amazon, 2% on (iirc) gas and food, and 1% on everything else.      We've had it for almost two years never carry a balance, and use it to buy everything.  It's given us a lot of money back.

I don't have prime and was ordering 5 items.  Said sure I'll try the free trial and all 5 of my items were not prime elegable.

Oh and its 79 dollars for prime now.

I live a good hour from a real store, and 30 minutes from ChinaMart, so as you can imagine I get my money's worth out of my Prime account.

Paying Prime members can share their shipping benefits with up to four people for free.  Streaming benefits cannot be shared.  I get my shipping benefits free from my "sibling" in my office.  For those of you who pay for Prime, take a look at the manage prime membership page for sharing your benefits.  All you need to know is the persons email address and birthday.  They will also need your email address and birthday to activate prime.

PRIME was a brilliant move for amazon.  Oftentimes, they can actually ship GROUND and still get it to you in 2 days.

PRIME allows customers to spend their money freely without having to wait until they need like 4-5 things all at once to balance out the shipping.  Now, if you see something you gotta have...you just order it right there and in 2 days you have it.

I love PRIME and will continue to renew for the forseeable future.
8/9/2012 4:17:25 AM EDT
[#17]
Prime is the SHIT.  Amazon has a distro center close-ish to me and more often than not, I get what I want the next freakin' day.

8/9/2012 4:21:48 AM EDT
[#18]
I love Prime.  In addition to the little crap I buy all the time, I've used Prime for $3.99 overnight shipping on a bicycle, a 15,000 BTU air conditioner, a commercial dish disposal, and a 50" TV.

I have Prime, but it's not a panacea. A lot of Prime-eligible items have shipping built into the cost, and you can often do better by getting non-eligible items, and paying the shipping, or buying from another site.

That said, I still use it a lot.

As always, make sure to comparison shop.

Signed up for the free trial a couple of months ago when I needed something next day.  Saved $30 on shipping right there on that first purchase.  By the time my month had ended, I'd made 3-4 other Prime purchases.  Renewing was a no-brainer.  In two months I've saved more in shipping than Prime costs for a year.

It's just so liberating.  Used to be I wanted something, so I'd add it to my wishlist.  Then when I had enough stuff to be eligible for free shipping, I'd place an order.  And some things often didn't qualify for free shipping, so I had to pay for that.   Then I'd wait a week and a half for it to arrive.  So I'd have to weigh
whether I could wait that long for whatever it was, or if I should go
buy it locally for more money.

Now I can impulse buy even small items, the shipping cost is not an issue, and I have it in just two days.

And on top of that, I have a pretty big selection of videos I can browse on my Roku, and they do have a good bit of stuff not available on Netflix streaming.

I LOVE PRIME.  Should have signed up a long time ago.

Most of my stuff has shipped out of Columbia SC lately, and I get it next day as well.  I am so glad that UPS doesn't artificially lengthen that time to 2 days...which I've seen happen before.

Definitely.  Amazon is always the first place I look, but unless it's a tiny purchase, I always do a price check with a few other places.  Amazon is still the cheapest or right there with the cheapest most of the time.

Don't forget all the other awesome stuff like streaming video and regular delivery of consumables like TP, diapers, etc.

Prime provides a panacea of the fastest shipping known to man. The echo of the mouse click is still in the room and the shits on its way. Unbelievable.

Prime is great.  I hate making trips into town and having to deal with crowds and traffic.  Most thing I need I can get for a much better price or about the same... and I don't have to waste my time or gas to go get it.  I don't know if this is against their policy, but I have spent more getting stuff for my business (special order items for customers) than at home.  So far this year it has paid for itself tenfold and that is no exaggeration.

Prime is simply amazing for college students! I got it for free for a year and now for $40 for the next 3 years. I order everything I can off there assuming their prices are the lowest or very competitive. Last year, I broke my futon frame and needed a new one. I found one I liked for $150 on Amazon (same price for nearly the same thing I bought at the big box furniture store) and ordered it next day shipping with Prime for $3.99. I ordered it about 4PM one day, and the 80 Pound package arrived before noon the next day. Simply incredible!

My wife orders paper towels and TP in bulk through them ––keeps up a constant supply that costs less than sams and she dosent have to wrangle big packages of it from the store while trying to corral kids and such ––I have ordered bulk canned food with no shipping through them plus I will find deals on monitors or cables etc. I found a 32' flat screen for just under 200 a few months ago free 2 day shipping.

I did the free Prime Trial last year and did the majority of my shopping online. I let it lapse though. Most of the stuff I order is over $25 and as long as it's sold or fulfilled through Amazon you get free shipping although it won't be th 2day rate.

Once taxes kick in here in TN I doubt I'll use Amazon as much unless the price is a good deal cheaper otherwise I just rather go pick it up locally.

We buy a shitload of stuff with Amazon prime. The only advise I can give is to make sure the item you are buying is eligible. Some items are shipped from an outside vendor and they can charge a bunch for shipping.
