[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Obama’s Continuing Jewish Problem (Page 1 of 2)

When Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz proclaimed Obama’s support for Israel in a Pennsylvania synagogue, she was visibly shocked by the loud and vocal dissent from the audience. Unlike the sanitized pro-Obama Jewish events in Florida, where Jews who opposed him were prevented from entering, the Pennsylvania event was open to all.
Wasserman Schultz apparently so believes her own rhetoric and has been so insulated from the political change sweeping the Jewish community that for a few moments she seemed sufficiently shaken to be unable to continue her speech. One group that has had its pulse on the political leanings of the Jewish community is the Republican Jewish Coalition. Playing on the theme of buyer’s remorse — Jews who voted for Obama but will not again — the RJC has been running ads and videos with Jews who supported Obama in 2008 and are vocal about their intent not to do so now. Advertisement The Jewish Democrats will quickly point out that no one expects the majority of the Jewish community to vote for Mitt Romney. But they fail to see that this election will, by all current indications, be close. A predicted near twenty-percent shift in the Jewish vote in critical states like Florida and Ohio can devastate Obama’s electoral vote count. It is no accident that while Mitt Romney was on his way to Israel, Obama signed a security agreement giving Israel preferential access to American arms and munitions. Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak was quick to note how supportive the Obama administration was of Israel, and liberal Jews immediately seized on that as if it were something other than the expected response of a small country dependent for its military hardware on a large country. http://pjmedia.com/blog/obamas-continuing-jewish-problem/?singlepage=true |

Quoted: The pro-Israel crowd knows damn well his administration has not been supportive and in fact has even acted contrary to the State of Israel. Problem is that most American Jews don't really place Israel as a top priority. I'd hope that American Jews' top priority is America rather than Israel... |
|
Obama and the Democrats bend over for Israel just as much as the Republicans. We haven't missed sending our yearly welfare checks and Israel is still the only foreign nation who can directly bid against U.S. companies for government contracts. Boo hoo Obama, you only voted every year to send $4+ billion dollars in DIRECT aid to that shitty little communist country. The hand wringing is getting old. |

I'm not sure why I should care what Israel thinks of my president. If based solely upon the ass-kissing posture of Obama while visiting heads of States in that region that would just as soon see us dead, having some love from Israel suddenly looks attractive. And if one simply cannot see the impact such has in states like Florida - then I simply cannot evoke nor employ enough reason to elucidate. |

I'm not sure why I should care what Israel thinks of my president. An ally in a strategic area of the world is kind of important. Invest in a map. Uh huh, I suppose you count on Turkey? Oh, maybe you think Saudi Arabia is dependable. How about Iraq? Maybe the little UAE or Kuwait? Can we count on Egypt now for security of shipping through the canal? |

Look up "Major Non-NATO Ally" If you're giving me tons of bank/tech I'll absolutely say you're my friend. Real friends don't aid the enemies of their allies. |

The only way your statement is true is if you consider Afghanistan or Pakistan "Israel's enemy" or COMBINE the aid given to numerous countries. Surely Afghanistan and Pakistan aren't friendly to Israel, but since they're thousands of miles away they're not exactly threats either... Besides, Pakistan's best buddies with Israel's old pal, Communist China. |

Ok, Tell me why the Eastern Med is not a strategic area? Are we afraid that the evil Muslims will establish a base on the Med? Israel is not "strategic" for anything, there is nothing special about their location since the advent of modern transportation. |

Support of allies in key areas of the world are in the best interests of the USA. Military conflict between the west and the east pre-dates 1948. Netanyahu is big friend of the US and Britain What does he do for us? Give us a proxy to fight anti-western nations with. For example, when Israel took out Iraq's nuclear weapons facilities and Syria's. |

We can use Israel to keep in check the middle east without having to do it ourselves and maintain a working relationship with various oil rich nations in the meantime.
It's a good cop/bad cop thing where Israel plays the bad cop and we get to play the good cop. In the end we get what we want. |

We give more aid to Israel's enemies than we do to them... Source? Whatever he provides as a source won't account for the value of intelligence (both that we give them, and what they steal,) not to mention the technology aspect. You're aware that it's actually their technology (drones ) that we bought from them right? Yes, many American Jews will vote for Obama, but far fewer than last time. Elections now come down to less than 2% deciding winners and losers. The fact that many American Jews are no longer concerned about stating their R support in a Jewish gathering is pretty significant. Ms. schultz was shocked for a reason. Her expectation was not that she might face an opposing viewpoint, but that it was not possible at all, at such a gathering, to face opposition. BTW, most American Jews put the USA number 1 and Israel number 2, and everyone else somewhere further down the totem pole. Most care deeply about how we treat Israel and they vote with their wallets. Oh and to be clear, it's not one of those dictates from Rome sort of thing. Wealthy American Jews also heavily influence policy on the Israeli government. |

You can help next time I guess maybe. Like you helped out in all those other wars we've been involved in since 1948. I'm really thankful for our allies that are willing to put their men in harms way to support us. |
