So I'm surfing around on youtube looking for some info and I stumble onto this gem of a video.......talk about some bad gunsmithing.  Can you at least put the gun up on a bench before you take a cutoff wheel to it??  Wow......hope that wasn't someone elses gun he was working on.

That's not gunsmithing; that's gun modifying. And there is nothing wrong with that as long as it works when he is done with the project.

I can't say too much since I've used some Bubba gunsmithing over the years, but at least I was practicing on guns that had very little value.

Everybody thinks they are a gunsmith!

Pfffft. Only someone that can make a fluted barrel with a dremel by hand deserves the title "gunsmith".

I was half expecting him to suck one of the cords into the belt sander

That was kinda like the feeling I had watching the two drug dealer guys being prepped for beheading.  You just knew the prep work was shitty and the outcome was going to match

I trimmed a stainless barrel with a Dremel, only because the hacksaw wasn't doing shit. You can't tell it was a Dremel, because I didn't overheat it and did a proper recrown job. I didn't think of using the foot vise. I don't have that much experience.

Im with you on this. Hes only cutting off a small portion of the magazine tube. Yeah it could have been done different, but he didnt have to pay a couple of hundred dollars for a real gunsmith to do it.

I don't know...after I watched one of the dimwit "gunsmiths" on that TV show about the Colorado gun shop take a hacksaw to a barrel, not much surprises me anymore...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you increase the risk of high velocity shattered cutoff wheel flying into your face when you apply a force to the big flat part instead of the edge?

I used a Dremel on my Gunfighter charging handle last week to give it some "gas busting" properties.

It works pretty well.
