I was looking over the CMP site.  On their sales page it says that you must be a member of a CMP affiliated club to purchase from them.  Am I reading this correctly?  So since I am not a member of any clubs I'm not allowed to buy from them?

I believe they have a list of clubs on their website. Many you can join online. I joined the Texas State Rifle Assocaition. Don't know what state your in.

Doesn't a C&R qualify as well?

No, that qualifies for the "proof of marksmanship activity" or whatever it is called.

IIRC, the requirements are:
- Some initial form - eligibility/citizenship/something?
- Club membership - self-explanatory
- Proof of marksmanship activity - match results, CCW, FFL, DD214

ETA - Since we're on the subject... I've actually been thinking about finding someone to "trade down" my Garand. I bought one of the fully worked-over rifles from the CMP, with a brand-new barrel, fully reparked, new parts, new stock, etc. with the intention of shooting CMP matches. Except that I don't really shoot them. So I've been considering trying to find somebody with a regular-ol' service grade that would trade it + cash for my special grade.

I think if u r a member of the Garand Collectors Society or something like that, that will suffice.

Review their affiliated clubs, you may already be a member of one!

American Legion and VFW are 2 that often get overlooked.  You in the reserves/NG/ active duty?  that counts

Check the affiliated club list and pick the one that fits you. If none nearby, the pick Garand collectors assoc.

But, it really doesn't matter as everybody knows CMP garands are junk. Stick to black rifles, no, really.

Yeah.  You'll get a better deal at the gun show.

Join the Garand Collectors Association. $25 a year, quarterly magazine, yearly national convention, and some state conventions. That fulfills your club membership.

This is what I came to post.  Plus, their magazine is pretty interesting.
