PIcked up a Colt Commander 1911 today to become my new carry piece. I also have a Glock but it's not with me as it is sitting in the safe. What do y'all think. How did I do?

That is odd must be great minds think alike.

the j frame was my birthday present for myself last year and the 1911 is mine for this year.

Something cool about a slightly worn 1911 –– you just cant reproduce the look by dragging it up and down the driveway.

One of the greatest pistols ever made.

(In before someone quotes me, crosses out "One of," and changes it to "THE").

I love my Combat Commander.

You'll go back to the Glock for daily carry though.

What will happen is, you will say "Gee, this Colt is so nice, I'd hate to lose it to the evidence locker if I ever did have to shoot someone, so I better switch back to the Glock instead."

I would be wary buying used 1911s without a knowledgeable friend by my side. Lots of unqualified people loved to fuck with them back in the day.

Not bad, I like the steel frame Combat Commander better myself.

ETA: For $535 I could like the lightweight one too.

The Commander was what made me fall in love with 1911's, actually a combat commander. I still think it's about the most perfect carry gun out there in terms of dimensions and controls. I do prefer more modern sights and a slightly extended thumb safety. Maybe a little more beveling at the mag well. None of that would make me feel poorly armed with the old school model though.

Good buy.

Good looking gun. I'd like to get another one, one of these days. Would be nice if I could find my first.

Colt 1911's are the shiznit. I have a full-size but have been contemplating a Commander for carry when I get my license.
