The time has come to implement an Arfcom karma system. This will eliminate many of the site's problems, while at the same time providing endless entertainment. 1) It will ease the burden on Site Staff and Moderators. No more annoying "He was mean to me" or "So and so is trolling" reports to deal with. Members will be able to proactively handle their own business. This will allow Site Staff time to pursue other pursuits such as watching Ron Paul speeches, reading Dune novels or drinking raw milk. 2) It will empower AR15.com members. Someone trying to bait you into an angry response? Don't bother. Hit the button. "Minus one you motherfucker! Die! Die! Die! Muahahaha!" 3) Tired of pathetic pit threads that shouldn't have existed in the first place? How about cries of "Don't quote him, I have him on ignore!"? Karma is the answer. Why call someone names, or ignore them, when you can actually punish them yourself? Nothing like a good karma punch to the nuts to vent your rage on your enemy. The only downside is that a karma system tends to make people crazy, and breeds seething animosity among the users. We have that anyways. So pick up your sword and let the karma wars begin! Forget post counts. Who will reign supreme as Arfcom Karma Champion? |

An earlier post of mine.
It should a " Black Ball" button which upon being pushed presents the member with a "Check One" list to allow the member to define the reason for his Black Ball vote. Categories chosen to reflect what is felt to be a poachers habitual nature such as, Trolling. Insulting, Hijacking, Scamming / Grifting, Endangering etc. Once the offending member reaches a certain amount of "Black Ball" votes in a certain category the offending member receives a notification of an automatic temporary account lock, upon the instance of the offending member's, say third account lock, it becomes permanent. The integrity of this system would require that any voting member be limited to the amount of times they could push the 'Black Ball" button in a given time. thus insuring that when and if they choose to vote they must consider carefully the recipient, as they would not be voting against another member for a while. To those that say pushing the ignore button is for the thin skinned and such, consider that the membership here and especially what could easily be considered some of the generally more interesting and contributive members here have given up on this site simply because of the hyper-trolls and misery wanting for company types that seemingly spend their entire life struggling to position themselves in stark contrast to everything anyone finds favorable or logical here without offering anything factual as a counter argument rather other than a stream of unending insults and easily discounted lies all while getting away with it by carefully negotiating the CoC or simply by a lack of an efficient means of bringing the severity of their disruption to the attention of the site staff. Some folks in the past have been shown the door and for some it took way to long and cost the site valuable and interesting members because of the lag time in throwing the disruptor's out and that it's a shame if you ask me. This site is a valuable and unique experience that if a member is given a chance to share, discuss and debate openly and honestly but respectfully, everyone benefits in uncountable ways. AR15.com can lay claim to some of the most timely, informative and interesting threads on the Internet and it is despite of the havoc these sad trolls wreak, imagine what could be. This is not to say that I don't enjoy hearing different opinions, I most certainly do as those opinions are very valuable in that they provoke thought. It is simply to note that there are folks who just want to watch Arfcom burn so to speak. |

Excellent idea, it would allow anyone with enough motivation to open a bunch of troll accounts and perma-ban anyone they wanted

I am concerned that this will end up being used in exactly the stupid way it gets used by cliques on reddit: assholes will use it to big up their mates, and people will gang up on people they merely do not like or with whom they disagree to prevent their message from being seen.
You think that shit with TBK and VTHS was bad? Wait until the next drug legalization or Ron Paul thread, and watch those people try to rip each other apart with downvotes or blackballs or whatever. Also, redditors are like the smarmiest internet people there are, and if you mixed GD's rambunctious stupidity and raging bloodlust with that level of smarm, the result is going to be some newb getting hunted down and set on fire by a lifer with three downvotes. |

This of course begs the question of why I would give a rat's ass what any of you think. I'm with this bastage. I don't care what any of you think. Neither does he. I don't care what he thinks. He doesn't care what I think. Truth is, in a perfect world, we might even be friends. However, neither of us give a fuck about stuff like that because it involves caring what another person thinks. And we don't do that. |

I prefer to judge people based on merit, not some superfluous number that was created by a mob. This idea is great for those who can't think for themselves. Well said. Seriously, anyone who would like to see this sort of mob rule in action, go check out reddit. Especially the politics section, but really most any section will do. If you say funny things that the majority agree with, you get upvoted. If you dissent in any manner, you get downvoted. Its retarded. |

What if there were a karma/like/thumbs-up-down system for posters and posts but was merely a statistical curiosity? I love shit like that, not least because I'm a massive attention whore andconstantly stressing about what people think of the things I say and do.
Sort of like EE feedback, except for posts, and of considerably less import. |

I hereby officially throw my allegiance behind the existing monarchy...junta...whatever you want to call it (I prefer "kingdom").
If it comes to war, I shall fight for the status quo (pronounced "stay-tus"). I will not be ruled by the mob, the common, drunken rabble. I side with the ruling elite.* *I know which side of my ARfcom bread is buttered, thank you very much. |
