I need a reliable source that says customers spend more when they feel in control of their buying experience. Whether they actually got a good deal is irrelevant.

People feel like they got the better of a car salesman so they opt for more financing

When people are given choices or options or maybe coupons or gift cards, they believe they are in control and thus spend more.

If a person feels like he entire restaurant revolves around him and his date, he'll order a more expensive bottle of wine
