I know it's the same company, the Chamberlain is what the big box stores carry with a multiple piece rail (cost less $) vs Liftmaster which is professional installers carry with a 1-piece rail (cost more $)- but is it worth it?

I'm looking at either the Liftmaster 8550 Elite series with battery back-up or Chamberlain 930EV with battery back-up

eta: i want the Jackshaft, but it's over $700 installed with similar accessories and they need to replace my torque bar, because I have the Wayne-Dalton with the spring built inside the bar, extra $200+

Don't know about Liftmaster, but the Chamberlain I installed last year absolutely kicks ass!   I can barely hear it when I'm in the garage.  Once I'm inside, I can't hear it at all.  Plus, it has a battery back-up.  I had a Genie screw drive which is a horrid device.

I've got a screw drive liftmaster and a Wayne Dalton door.  It's always kind of been a PITA during the winter when it gets really cold. They came out and replaced the whole screw/track under warranty and that helped, but I still had to adjust the torque settings once it got good and cold out.  Too much safety bullshit.  I want it to be able to crack walnuts when it hits the floor.

I can't help with your decision, but I recently dealt with the Chamberlain customer service and they were excellent.

Screw drives are a stupid design.  Go belt and never look back.

Saftey features are fine with me so long as they work right.

currently i have the WD idrive which is built-into the torsion bar - the concept is terrific, but quality and execution is horrible, i bypassed the eye sensors

Have Liftmaster on the shop door 10x14.

Chamberlain on both of the garage doors on the house.

Both have been trouble free for seven years.

If Chamberlain if cheaper I would go that way.

I helped my friend install a Chamberlain two years or so ago, and I was so impressed with it I almost replaced my 3 year old Genie with one.
