This morning I was out walking my dag, a Boxer, and a guy who was out running catches up to us and we start talking about dags.

He  plays with my pup and says he's leasing a condo in the area and the rules regarding dogs are very vague and selectively enforced.
'

He wants a boxer but says the rules are: no pitbulls or bulldog "style" dogs, no dobermans, rottweilers, shepard dogs, and dogs over 100lbs ( i left out some of the other specific breeds because I dont rember them)

I asked about the bulldog "style" and he said that's how it's written.

He asked if I thought he'd be able to slip a boxer by since they are well known as boxers and as a "nice" breed even though they are related to almost every bulldog breed.

So GD do you think he'd be able to get it by the rules?

ETA: I forgot to.mention I am well aware of the Boxers bloodline.

ETA2: Here's my puppy protecting a friend from his yappy dachshund at their house

Boxers were originally bred from English Bulldogs, so I expect it won't fly.

Dogs 102

yes, they are a molosser breed...

Molosser is a category of solidly built, generally quite large dog breeds that probably all descended from the same common ancestor. The name derives from Molossia,[1] a subregion of ancient Epirus,[2] where the large shepherd dog was known as a Molossus. Molossers typically have heavy bones, pendant ears, a relatively short and well-muscled neck, and a short muzzle. -wiki

English bulldogs are a cross between a pug and bulldog. The closest thing to the original bulldogs these days are the American bulldog. Boxers are descendants of the original English bulldogs, not the English bulldog that we see today.

I live in an uppity suburb but have found it to be a pretty day friendly place. I see all sorts of dogs in the Parks we frequent including pitbulls as there are several rescue agencies in the area

Actually, I went and re-checked my policy and the requirements. My policy doesn't include (thankfully!) Boxers in the list of troublesome dogs. Most people I've talked to seem to think they are pretty tame breed.

My 23 pound toddler pushes around my 60 pound boxer.  He's a very strong puppy, but good with the kids.  "Bulldog style" seems to be a weasel phrase for the management.  IMHO, breed-specific regulations are about as logical as 10 round magazine limits.  My wife had a Scottish Terrier when she was young.  That dog bit and scared many people.

Unfortunately several States and Counties have fucked up BSL's, and often they specify "Bully Breeds" which lump all sorts of breeds into that category, and Boxers are considered a "bully breed" due to their lineage.

Boxers and bulldogs are both descended from mastiffs.

No bulldog style breeds?  So my little 22# French bulldog is verboten?

So... from the looks of it, this guy can only have girly dogs, ankle biters and breeds which people consider harmless.
Pretty sure I wouldn't be found living there. Not that I need an intimidating dog to be happy, but I do have a GSD and that list is just .

Oh, yeah. And boxers would be categorized as a bull-breed.

Same here. My 40 lb kids bosses and pushes around our 70ish lb boxer as well as my dads 85ish lb boxer (my dogs dad)
Its fun my son will walk the dog like he's a yorkie. People are surprised when they see it.

If someone wont allow boxers they are fools. Easily one of the most reliably great dogs that put up with a whole lot before reaching their breaking point compared to most other breeds. Currently have two and one in the past so I know a little about them

Boxers are great dogs, BUT you have to exercise them two hours a day, minimum, flat out, to keep their health good and to keep them from going nuts. Like Dalmatians and Viszlas, they have to keep moving to stay healthy and happy.

The polling is pretty close but I'm betting a Frenchie would be A-OK.

Boxer's dont have it in the name so they may get away with it but they have it in the blood. They are even being used to recreate old bulldog breeds such as the Brabanter.

German mastiff + English bulldog = Boxer

I had a leasing consultant refuse to work with me because of my boxer just a couple weeks ago.

I was like, lady. Have you ever met a boxer?

YOU CAN SEE THE KILLER INSTINCT IN HIS EYES!!!

I've had three Boxers in the last fifteen years.
I believe they are in the bully breed category.

My brindle is about as loving as you can get, but is very aggressive and protective around strangers until he is sure of my acceptance and safety. Some Boxers go a little overboard in being protective, but it's in their nature.

He will kill any other animal that comes into my yard he deems a threat.
So far four squirrels, two raccoons, one possum, a stray cat, and two birds, but hr has never had a problem with the three dogs and three cats various roomates have had over the years.

He is just as protective of my mom and sister when we go visit them.

Boxers are my favorite dog, but unless you are going to crate it, probably not good for apartment living.

Cooper says really!

He is a stray. Never thought of myself as a Boxer person but this one is a really hyper good natured dog.

I can see how they could be a problem with small kids. He seems to knock everyone six and under on their butt.

Five months old the Vet said.

I wouldn't call boxers tame. They're hyper as a cranked up 13 year old teenage girl at a Justin Bieber concert with the Backstreet Boys as backup singers.

You got to run it out of them:

Tame was a poor choice of words.

They have less of a prey drive and are more laid back than other breeds of dogs.

My puppy (18 mos) is ready to go sun up to sun down.

Luckily so is my son. They play fun games like run in circles, steal the dog toy and throw it down the stairs for him to bring back to my son who throws it back down the stairs and all sorts of loud exhausting games.

Out doors the dog is more in sentry mode than bounce off the walls mode. He has to make sure he can always see his boy and make sure he's okay.

I would say that line is meant to include the working line bulldogs, like American and Alapahas. There are quite a few various breeds that are high drive, serious dogs.

I have an Alapaha and if I owned an apt. complex I wouldn't want a bunch of them living in it
