Did you scroll through the entire list, You don't see the speaker icon? Do you have the choice to restore default icon behaviors? Is this windows 7? XP Toshiba laptop I clicked restore defaults but nothing changed. I looked at the control panel under sounds too. Doesn't seem to be an option any where to "show icon" whatever. Does it matter if there is a volume control on the laptop itself ? I swore it used to be in the tray though. |

If the system doesn't recognize the audio card, it won't display the options. In Sound/Audio control panel, click on the "Audio" tab. Make sure your card is listed as the default output device. Check "Always use preferred devices". You should then have the volume back, if you have it checked to show in taskbar (if not, uncheck it, click apply, re-check it, click apply as stated above). If not, some update messed up your audio drivers and the OS doesn't think you have sound. |

I had no icon in the bottom toolbar and when I went to the control panel the sound area was faded/transparent so I could not click on it nor change it. Restarting fixed it. |

Quoted: Quoted: Right click the bottom toolbar. Click properties. Click the "Customize" button in the notification area. Find the volume icon and select "show icon and notifications" Reboot. Your welcome. Quoted: There is no "volume" in the list to choose from. is this not what you see? http://i.imgur.com/MTfu5.jpg That window also has "Turn system icons on or off", Volume is in that list. |
