To use a BP rifle to make a boom with BP only?
To discharge primers with a revolver? I would think yes. My buddy says he's going to fo. I think he may end up with fines. |

I guess I'm not exactly sure what the question is. He wants to just set off a bunch of black powder with no projectile? If so, I'm fairly certain it would fall under the cities ordinance regarding discharging firearms. If your city/county/state doesn't have one of those I don't think it should be an issue. |

Are you talking about shooting blanks? That thing that reenactors do all the time?
In Florida, as I understand it, it is not illegal per se. I'm sure you can get disturbing the peace or whatever depending on the situation. I have fired BP revolvers in my backyard. No one cared. I may or may not have chased my dog through the house shooting just caps (no powder) in the air. |

Well, when I was in high school I had a history teacher who was a BP gun enthusiast, and one day he brought in one of his BP pistols to show the class, and he touched off a small load of BP in the school auditorium to show us what it sounded like.
I have no recollection of him getting arrested for that. He had permission from the faculty. Nor did any parents go apeshit about it either. Times were different then of course. The country wasn't quite so full of hoplophobic cocksucking liberal eunuchs back then. |

No patch just powder....but SLC is zero discharges except at ranges. Then he says maybe just primers.
I think that is discharging a firearm. |

BP guns aren't legally firearms, that's why you can buy them mail order. I doubt he;ll have any issues unless he plans on burning through a lot of powder. |

Considering the wet status of Utah right now and the attention on gun owners and allegations that they started fires, a muzzleloader spitting blackpowder sparks or a centerfire firearm spitting primer sparks would be just about the most stupid act either one of you could commit right now.
Either one will start a fire in dry tender without any trouble at all. |

That's true under the federal Gun Control Act of 1968. But we're talking about local ordinances, here. The county where I used to live (thank God I'm outta there!) had an ordinance about discharging firearms that included BB guns in the definition of "firearm". |

We are in the city, so things are actually pretty green but you wouldn't carry your pistol or rifle out in the street where fireworks are discharged, you do that in your back yard. My concern would be the fact that you are discharging a firearm. I am sure the law is written to somehow include BP guns or folks would discharge BP guns every day. I certainly have no plans to discharge my guns, but have put BP in a .50 x 3.25" shell (not full) and used cannon fuse to light it. I may have actually put a primer in the bottom of the shell once....this was on a dampened piece of plywood on the deck rail so it didn't hurt my lawn. Since my yard is .27 acre there's plenty of room. I don't mind burning some powder in a controlled manner, but I'm not involving my guns. Seems like a risk. |

Primers by themselves are quite loud. As I found out one night when reloading... That was the thought. Safer than any spark shooting firework, just a bang with minimal sparks and easily controlled....but takes a gun to ignite. I don't have the cahones to use a gun for fun in city limits. |

Fill a ping pong ball and epoxy a fuse to it. Do not drive around with this or transport it and you should be GTG aside from noise complaints. At the range I tried a Mountain Man recipe and loaded 80 gr of FF and packed some dry malt-o-meal over it. BANG!!!!! No possible projectile. |

I checked for the St. of WA. and this is what I found.
(e) There is a ball in the barrel and the firearm is capped or primed if the firearm is a muzzle loader
Now it does say there is a "BALL" but I myself would talk to the local LEO and get this Pre-Approved. P.S. Do a Google search for the Laws for your State. They should be easy to find. Ed |
