This device resembles the bill of a terran aquatic avian fitted to the muzzle (so called 'duckbill chokes') and modifies the typical circular shot pattern into an ellipse, optimizing the shotgun pattern for combat.

Had one years ago. Some sort of clamp on choke. I think I threw it away. There's a reason they're not around...

Have ya seen much combat?

A guy on SGW was making reproductions a few years ago.

I missed out on buying one.

Goose bill.   It's just like the duck bill only bigger.

I used one this one time I had to choke a dude and all I had was a duck.
Weapons of opportunity and all...

"Optimized for combat" LOL.  Quack quack.

The Shotgun Digest in the '80s, written by Jack P. Lewis, had a good section about those weird chokes.  There were other shapes as well.  Such as a vertical one.  I guess for hallway shots.

Shotgun?  I think you're confused.  The duck bill choke is actually a move in Dutch Jiujitsu.

The part in red is wrong.

An "optimized" pattern for a shotgun will place every buckshot onto the bad guy.  We do not want any buckshot to miss the bad guy, as we are responsible for every projectile we send down range.

A duck bill spreader makes that very difficult and is therefore not useful.

A duck bill is a pattern destroyer.  What did work is the old A&W Diverter.  Right or wrong, it did produce rectangular patterns with most shot sizes.

A & W Diverter pics

#4 buck spread in a horizontal fan probably sounded like a good idea in a jungle around 1968.

Duck bill chokes were used in Vietnam and that was pretty much the only place they were used so calling it a combat choke isn't really wrong.

I do, however, think it would be really useful for the zombpocalypse.    Lines of similar-hieght targets, only need one pellet per zed, not too concerned about collateral damage.   Definitely going in my zombie load-out.

Interesting thought.
