Epson Stylus NX430 "Small In-One".

My first Wi-Fi Printer.  I decided to get one because I wanted to have the ability to print stuff from my work laptop and not have to plug in the old Samsung ML-1710 I am retiring.  Nothing was wrong with the Samsung, except the paper grabbies were not grabbing the paper at a certain level.

$69.99 at Staples(regularly $99.99.)  Was looking at a Canon, a Brother and an HP but I decided against the Canon because of previous bad Canon experience, a story about HP printers losing their wireless connectivity, and I decided against the Brother because the one I wanted was the floor model.   This was the last Epson in that model that they had.  I had wanted an Epson Workforce 40 but those seem to be made of unobtanium.  I had looked at Officemax, Staples, Tiger, Office Depot, and Micro Center, and couldn't find that.

So far, so good.

And then the replacement ink will cost more than the printer itself...

Back when I got into Digital Photography pretty heavily I bought a $500 epson Higher end pro photo printer that would do 11" wide photo paper. Nothing but problems. Sold it pretty quickly.

$25 for the 3 pack of colors(black, magenta, yellow) on Staples' website.  The ink for our Canon PIXMA490 was $20 just for the damn black color.

Retired the 1710?

I have a 1740 that is built like a tank.  I'm going to be very sad if this thing ever stops working.

It was eight years old, IIRC it was $80 for ink, and like I said, the feet that grab the paper quit working.

If you can wire it into your network not over WiFi it will be a better experience.

I use a continuous ink system from this guy

I have it for my Canon MX870.  The ink quality is excellent and I can print on photo paper just as good as OEM.  The downside is that the printer cover may not close (because you have to run the ink tubes into the printer)  If you don't print for a long time you might get air bubble in the line and you would have to do some maintenance (all tools are included)  if you can open up your PC and fiddle with it, this shouldn't be beyond your ability, though it can be messy.

You can find him on eBay.  It's expensive to start, but you get almost
10 times the ink over individual cartridges.   I figure the system is about the price of 2 sets of factory cartridges.so if you do a lot of
printing, it's well worth it.

That's for the "moderate" (read small) cartridges.

$20 a pop for the high yield size, per color.

If you don't mind remans, they are a bit cheaper here:
