What is the best way for this to go smoothly

I need to ship 500 .45 that I made to my buddy. What is the best way to ship legally in Texas?

Not USPS.

UPS is good to go. Unsure on Fedex.

Once again. Not USPS.

Open a UPS account, certify that you have read and comply with all HazMat (ORM-D) regulations and ship away.

Fed ex Is my carrier of choice - same price, same transit times (both companies can only ship it ground) - Except FedEx is non-union, UPS is filled with unionized workers.  Your choice in the end who you want your money contributed to.

remember to put a orm-d sticker on it.
