I recently shipped a package USPS Priority mail.  Did not use insurance but delivery confirmation is included in the rate.  Dropped the package at the PO and is was never delivered and no tracking info is available online, only shows that I purchased the postage label.  Has anyone had such luck and what happens to lost mail?  I have never had an issue and thus only use insurance on occassion. Lesson learned for me I guess but still a mystery.  It was a briefcase sized package in a clean cardboard box.

When ever I have used USPS "tracking" it only had the tracking updates posted online AFTER it had already been delivered. How useful.

I have dealt with insurance claims from USPS. If you do not have any, you said it...lesson learned. You honestly have no recourse if you did not purchase insurance. They will tell you that point blank. UPS insures all packages up to $100, USPS does not.

With that said, I had a claim for $2500 of Silver/Gold that I sold to an arfcommer that got delivered empty. I had to provide receipts/proof/etc, but it was eventually honored.

Interesting. I'm considering selling some PM to APMEX using USPS, insured, proof of delivery, etc.

How long would it take to "eventually" receive the insured amount. What was the procedure?

If the post office neglects to scan it you are screwed. I ended up having to refund someone over $200.00 for something I am convinced he received but he knew (because the post office didnt scan it) I couldnt prove he got it.

The post office was no help at all. refused to interview the mail carrier to ask him if he remembered delivering the package.  Lesson learned. Always pay for insurance now.

They must have never even scanned it at the origin.  That stinks.

The best thing by far is just to pack and tape it extremely well. That eliminates even the need for insurance the vast majority of the time.

Completely feckless.

USPS should be sued for false advertising. There is NO "tracking" occurring.
