Just ordered two 10" x 12" plates for $129 shipped.

Here's the plate:  http://www.ar500armor.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=29778el

If you use coupon code AR10, you get 10% off too.

I know it's steel plates, but for $129 shipped, figured why not?

Bad business ethics imo, stealing others design.

http://slickguns.com/product/10-ar10-ar500-level-iii-body-armor-pair-10x12-trauma-plates-free-hat-117

submitted by the same user name as the user in this thread that "insulted" another vendor?

and he questions "ethics"?

maybe i am confused, but i thought we supported capitalism here.......

eta, again, no dog in this fight, but i am all about getting the best bang for the buck. i have inquired to both sellers about the same items that i would like to get and their prices are competitive on certain items. i have NOT yet purchased anything from either.

I'm hesitant to fuel this, but want the point to get across.

No insults just fact on what's going on. Ripping off others designs is frowned on and bad ethics, maybe it's just me with this opinion?

Competition is healthy for the market and ends with a better product for the consumer. BUT, ripping off a design? Better products should stem from improvements on a design, not an exact replica with an attempt to ride off others marketing by looking the same and claiming to go through the same tests.

The decision is up to the consumer once they have as much information as possible.

ok, once more, i will reply with no intent on fueling any fire, BUT, you have posted this same crap on arizonashooting also.

if you have something personal against this fellow targetman, then keep it to yourself, but if you have a legally protected design, then provide proof of such documents and there will be the end of story, because, "unpainted and rusted" is weak.

why are you so concerned about this fellow in a different city than you anyway? seems to me there are way more shooters in comparison to tucson.

"design"?  If that's the case they both ripped off the original body armor shape and concept from point blank.  this would be like intrafuse guys claiming rights to any doohickey that goes on your gun.  Hell I had the idea of cutting AR500 to fit the vest before I saw either of these....hardly a novel and ingenious idea, and and besides, if it was, this is why we have copywright/trademark laws.  use them.

Uhhhh... how many different shapes are there he can realistically cut?  Is that what we're fussing about?  500 Brinell steel is 500 Brinell steel, right?  Are we getting butthurt because the cut shape is similar?  Am I missing something here?

has this turned into a thread about someone complaining about not having the monopoly on the market or having competition that forces lower prices to the consumer, because i'll tell you, for me, it's about the total cost out of MY pocket that will decide between two identical products between two vendors if all else is equal.

Instead of some elaborate product counterfeiting scheme, I think it's much more likely the guy is just looking for a way to pay for his new plasma table. It looks like he does 4x4 stuff. He probably saw targets and thought, hey I can make those! And he's willing to sell them much cheaper. So maybe they were overpriced to begin with.

Either way, it's not like the guy is using child labor, government subsidies, and intentionally using inferior steel. I'm kind of surprised at the abuse he's taken. He sounds more like an advanced hobbyist than anything else.

Great way to liven up the morning, though.

Friend, if you want to go about this the right way, disclose your role as a direct competitor of the business in question and explicitly detail what proprietary component of your design he supposedly copied. Stop being vague and cute with insinuations.

Trauma plates in that general shape are common. What makes yours unique?

So the design they copied is what, a body armor plate? What is unique about such a design? Also where is this ar500 armor place located and who is it? His website provide no info, he only takes paypal and the site appears to be registered anonymously.

They sound like a good deal and only a pound or so heavier than ceramic but no address, no credit card etc makes me nervous. I wouldn't want to get poked again like that Beast Rifle Gong guy got me years ago.

I'm not here representing them as a portal for contact. The site is relatively new though as stated above. I'd recommend shooting an e-mail for contact info if that's what you’re looking for. Most new sites start off taking paypal before diving into a merchant account contract, etc.

My concern is a business that copy's others designs. Again my opinion I think it's wrong and wanted to share, per the response to the OP's post. I'm simply providing information that I know for those looking to make a well informed buying decision.

Okay, I doubt any of us care* and I don't think your posts are actually helping your buddy, but it's a free country, mostly.

*if you could really show there was something obvious and unique about your buddy's plates that the other guy obviously ripped off, that might effect who I would buy from, but your claims are kind of vague and stealing a plate design sounds sort of like stealing a shovel design, I am skeptical that they are that unique. Honestly my guess is that most people won't care and will buy whatever is cheapest.
