It wont be as durable and its jutfor airsoft, its a Larue "style" says so in the description

Yea, but it is made out of aluminum and looks to be almost identical.  I would say you have a possible copyright infringement case.

That's on our list of things to do, right after human rights violations.  China doesn't seem to worry about these things

Technically it's OK since it says "LaRue STYLE".

Unfortunately, it's not really a technical thread, so I'll move it to GD but I'll send Mark an email to alert him to this thread.

Yet people bitch when IPR laws are enforced, we see things here like "I am glad we are more worried about CHICOM rip off's more than we are about illegals coming across."

They can advertise on my website  www.ar15s.com where it will have the nearly identical layout as this site.

No, they sell cola of some sort. If they called it 'Coca-Cola style Cola', they'd be getting gang-raped by lawyers.

Meh, it'll be something like "Dr. B" and taste just like Dr. Pepper.  Change an ingredient, change a letter in the name, and they're good to go it seems.

If it was Chinese knock-off Dr. Pepper it would contain little boy urine, dead baby powder and tiger penis.

Rock-hard virility AND long-life!

But the shitbirds selling these ripoffs, be it on Ebay or here in the EE, always seem to use 'Aimpoint-Clone' or Larue-style or whatever to help messup keyword searches. A pox on them all.

China rides the coattails and undercuts American innovators who invest their blood/sweat/tears/money/risk into a product in an effort to make a business out of it.  Let's not even start how the gov works against small businesses.  Innovation dies a little bit more everytime the Chinese copy a product.  Americans work hard to develop and refine roducts just to end up as a pattern mill for the Chinese to manufacture.

There's a difference between "Mountain Lightning" and "Mountain Dew style beverage."

Meh....I dont see the hubub.

Those that buy that crap, dont buy Larue.

Those that buy Larue dont buy that shit.

Two different customers with no loss of business or harm done to Larue. In fact, Id say it probably helps his business. Ay advertising is good advertising, plus the kids buying that crap to put on their airsoft guns grow up one day and get real jobs and buy real kit.

Future customers I say.

You can't be serious.

Something tells me if you owned a business that develops products your opinion would be very different.
I wonder how many times Larue has gotten angry phone calls and warranty returns for piece of crap mounts that they didn't even make but have their name on them.

Ideas are worth money, R&D is worth money, a brand name is worth money.  Larue has built a name and reputation for innovative products and outstanding quality.  To steal those things and make a cheap replica in a Chinese sweatshop and throw a Larue logo on it is theft in every sense of the word.
If an airsofter wants a mount that says "Larue" on it, he can get out of the basement and ask his Mom to buy him a real one.

Interesting point here.  In this case, the gun itself is a replica.

Now, for some things (i.e. AR15, 1911, etc) the designs are old enough that manufacturers probably don't have to pay royalties for straight lookalikes.  But if you have an airsoft clone of, say, a SCAR or an ACR, it stands to reason that any respectable manufacturer would have paid apropriate royalties for the form design.  Note that all of those firearms used in video games have the permission of the manufacturers (granted, video games often use the actual names and/or manufacturers' names as well).  But the point is, the external appearance of an object is a part of the branding and is covered by copyright.

In this case, they have copied, nearly exactly, the external appearance of a LaRue mount.  Down to the "engraving" on the side of the base.  Obviously, the purpose is to BE a lookalike vice being a good mount, as is the purpose of the rest of the airsoft ensemble.  But that doesn't matter.  The selling point is someone else's design.

No matter how you cut it, if you want to make commercial gain using someone else's design, you need their permission.

sucks to have it stolen ,

but look at this way like was mentioned above,

Airsofters arent going to buy the full product most of the time, but if they ever get into the real game they might consider,

Same goes for me,

On my "real" rifles, i have name brand top quality gear, On my 10/22 trainer rifle im not going to be thousands in accesories on it, where a clone or fake item can mimic the real thing just fine.. And come close to matching the real rifles while being able to shoot for pennys on the dollar
