Pay what you owe.  They DO occasionally audit for vehicles that are suspiciously below blue book/nada.

The rest of your post just sounds overly shady.

Yes they are going to want the bill of sale and they may check with the dealer or the dealer may turn in the info.

I'm the proud new owner of a 2006 GMC CANYON CREWCAB!  I love the truck and got a great deal on it.
Here's my situation. I paid cash for the truck and I got it for 6k less than the dealership was asking because of it. BUT- the catch was that I had to pay my own taxes and stuff. Which is going to cost me about $800. My question is when I go to register my vehicle is their anyway around paying that much? Are they going to want to see the bill of sale? Can I say I bought it from a private party for less than I actually paid? I'm just trying to save some money... Any advice?

They call that tax fraud.

Good luck with that truck. I own a 04 and its been a mediocre truck at best.

Things to check for.

1. Oil seep at passenger side rear of where the head meets the block. Bad headgasket. I got mine repaired under warranty.

2. Funky startup when cold that seems like it misses but starts. Bad intake valve seats that require a new head. I am currently dealing with this.

3. Burnt up contacts for the blower motor on the resistor module

4. Gages and interior lights go out for no reason. Actually the reason is a poor ground.  remove the ground cable from the battery to the body and use a dremel and a star washer to bit down on the metal.

5. Bad power window sitches. .Had mine replaced under warranty

Good luck.

If you can't afford the tax, you shouldn't have bought the truck.

Mine was shit too

ate front tires at a alarming rate had it aligned a bunch of times

radio A/C and other electrical stuff would just randomly quit and not start till I shut off the vehicle and started it back up

Would sputter and stall about 2-3x a week

Drove that fucker 60K was happy as hell to trade it for a jeep wrangler

OP been glad you are not in Nebraska

it would be $1000-1500 to put plates on that truck ( depending on what ya paid )

sales tax , wheel tax , school/fire/community college fees, property tax , cost of registration , cost of plates

I hear you. Mine doesnt eat front tires but I did have a few electrical problems. The passlock system would let my truck start once for about 15 minutes. My truck only has 45K miles.

It does kinda sputter at idle sometimes.....i think its the whole valve seats, I have to do a leakdown test on it soon.

Good luck OP.

If you try to hide the real amount paid, they might just figure it out for you, and not to your liking. FYI, most motor vehicle departments have detectives that would love to play this game with you.

Mine ended up being the 02 sensor on the exhaust manifold

5 minute job and $75 part but it needed 3 of um (including the factory orginal) in 60K miles

OP is asking advice on how to break the law.
Good luck at the DMV, and don't cry so much when they see your game and value your tax levy on your Canyon as they see fit.

Thanks for the advice... Guess I'll just suck it up and pay, as for the problems... I hope all goes well.

The sales tax game really only works on private purchases.  Dealers don't want the trouble.  If you would have bought it from me, you could've wrote your own bill of sale.

I don't have any of those and I'm not a dealer, but I don't give bills of sale when I sell stuff.  I'm too lazy, you can write your own.

i think you bought a truck that is universally recognized off of arfcom and every other internet forum as one of the LEAST recommended vehicles made.. as well as attempting to solicit advice for fraud

Everything I would say has been said. IE

Don't break the law.

If you DO, be smart enough to not have to ask how to on a very public forum.

Don't buy from Obama motors.

2006 is pre obama motors.

I think the OP may be able to take it to an independent appraiser if he thinks the value is less than what he paid. Kinda sucks because its double taxation.

Whatever you paid is that much more then it's worth (Trucks value is $0.00, actually it may have a negative value now). Pay the bill, sitt on the truck until the end of the summer season, find a boat owner with a Ford or Toyota and trade it off for something 1000x better.

they are not reputed to be good trucks ..

nissans / toyotas and fords are worlds ahead in the small truck category,

Did you do any research before you bought this vehicle ? or was it bought on a whim ?

Trucks are not that bad. I have a 06 colorado with a 2.8L. Got a new Head with new cams under warranty at 96K. Had a brake switch replaced under warranty.

Now my e-vap valve needs replaced. Easy to do but parts cost $100.00.

Other than that it has been great. Still running the orignal brake pads.

OP I would delete your original post and ask a mod to delete this thread. Asking for advice on those kinds of subjects are frowned upon heavily here.
