Went camping and shooting over the weekend.  I wore sneakers, shorts and a shirt.  I used bug spray to keep the mosquitos at bay and figured the deet would keep the chiggers away as well.  I was wrong.  I got bites on my feet only.  All of the exposed skin was left untouched.  I have close to 50 bites on my feet and they are driving me insane.

I have been using OTC Hydrocortisone cream to keep the itch to a minimum, but it is still pretty bad.  I went so far as to put some bleach on a towel and wipe my feet and ankles down which has seemed to work for a little while.  An hour or so I took a Zyrtec as well.  Not sure if it is helping.

Anyone got any good remedies for chigger bites?

I usually soak in a tub with about a 1/4 cup of bleach in it.

Hot water, as hot as you can stand will give you some relief for a while, the heat destroys the histamine and stops the itch

The trick is ChiggerX.......it's in a white and red tub in the pharmacy/wal-mart.

ETA:  It will change your world.

I've found that scratching the top layer of skin off with your fingernails hurts less.

Of course it will become infected and leave a scar, but it doesn't itch any more.

ChiggerX is just benzocaine, a topical anesthetic.

Not saying it doesn't work (it does!), but it's not some magic elixir.

I usually use hydrocortisone and benzocaine.  That, or get the carving knife out of the drawer and just start slicing off skin.

The best stuff I have ever used is a home brew mix made by a pharmacist in in the small town of Jacksboro, TX. He calls it Summer Gel. The pharmacy is "City Drug Store"   The ranchers also swear by it.

It's a blend of Diphenhydramine HCI, Pramoxine HCI, Hydrocortisone Acetate, Menthol, Camphor, and some other stuff.

Knocks the itch out almost immediately.

I rub some of my wife's antiperspirant on them.  In about two minutes the itching has stopped.

It is free and easy for you to try, right now.

She actually bought a tube of un-scented deodorant for me to use specifically for chiggers.

Nothing will work other than stuff that stops itching. Do you have the 1% Hydrocortisone? That's about the only stuff I'd trust.

If you can get the Fentanyl patches some guy above mentioned you should be good to go as well.

I'd use this.

I got over 100 bites when I was paintballing in Texas.

I was laying prone for the best shot on a couple guys.

Was lying there for about 20 min....

Went home, all was well, that evening while surfing the world wide web, my stomach became itchy.

Itched it a few times, started to tingle and itch some more.

Lifted my shirt and saw over 100 bites on my stomach, it looked like someone shot me with BB shot out of a 12ga.

Itched like a mofo,

Went to the Dr. they gave me some steroids and some cream, felt good after the first night.

I hate chiggers, I hope they all die of AIDS.

Take a big glass and fill it with 1/2 clorox and 1/2 water, rub all over the affected areas, let it stand for a few minutes and rinse.  Problem solved.  Next time your in the woods, wash twice with soap and water or use the mixture above.

Man, that sucks.  They usually eat me alive and I didn't get any bites while we were there.  Good luck getting rid of the itch.

None of the aforementioned remedies work.  Might as well cut your feet off or be prepared to suffer for a couple weeks.

Chiggers are miniature spawn of Satan.
