Love them, hate them, my wife and I are thinking about getting one. What can you tell me about them?

Have one, like it.  It's not much more than a premium spring mattress.  I'd recommend one.  Try a TempurPedic as well while you're at it.

Had a 2 level lumbar fusion 13 years ago, got one and sleep with no pain and like a baby.
20 year warranty called them up after 10 years at 10am told them I think my air pump is going out 8:30 next day had  a new one at the front door, and gave me a month to ship the other one back on their dime.

Have had one for 10 years.  They have some pretty serious flaws, google them.  You will not like it if your sleep numbers are VERY different, like ours (she's a 40 I'm an 85).

I love the comfort but it sucks in the same breath. If you like getting close at night forget it. It has a foam boarder that surrounds the mattress.
Ours is a King that you can raise and lower so it has a split running down the middle which because of the foam boarder is very uncomfortable to snuggle on.
We have had ours for about 5 years and as soon as we can afford it we are dumping it.

The controls to raise and lower the bed quit working and my side of the mattress wants to slid off the side of the bed if I get up at night.

Have had one for the last 10 years.  Great stuff.  BS on the foam border though, never stopped us from snuggling.....In fact don't even notice it 99% of the time.

I've slept on one.  Didn't care for it because, surprise surprise, it felt like sleeping on an air mattress.

Just got some at work a few months ago. I still go to my Chiropractor, but only for monthly visit. Before I was begging to get in every other week. Yea, I like mine.

I like ours a lot. We had to replace one airpump and one remote. One under warranty and one prorated.  Sleeps really good and have never had  an issue with the center divider even though we have 75/45 sleep numbers. Never had it feel like an air matress either. There are several different models so that may be causing some of the differing opions. I think ours is a 5000 series with pillow top and wireless remot.

When my bed was about 20 years old I was having major pain in my back and neck and had to get a new bed.  Did a lot of research on the sleep number and saw too many complaints about the problems with them deflating and the pumps going bad.  No personal experience, just what I researched.  I decided on a tempur pedic but they were way too expensive.  Ended up ordering what I needed from bedinabox.com for a fraction of the price.  They ship it in a box and you take it out, cut the seal and the thing expands.  Been sleeping on it 5 years pain free and have not experienced the "too hot" thing either.

I have had one for over 10 years and love it.  100 is the number that both myself and my better half use

My wife and I have had one for almost 13 years and have had no problems with it.  After sleeping in pain for a log time, I finally got my pressure dialed in to a 45 and now sleep great.  Pillow choice also has a lot to do with how you sleep too.  I need to look for a better combination than what I have now, as they keep my head a little higher than I like it, and my neck tends to get stiff.  I would definitely get another one, though.

At first I liked ours.  After about a year, I couldn't stand it.  We eventually got rid of ours.

I have one, it's ok.  Definately not worth the price.  It's priced about 4 times too much for what it is.  Also the warranty that the saleman will tell you about is BS.  I was told is has a 20 year warranty, the last bed you will ever have to buy.  Well that is sort of true, there is a 20 year limited warranty that they start pro-rating at the 2 year mark!  That's right, it's only 2 years before you have to start paying for parts.

Then their customer service is absolutely terrible.  They run you in all sorts of circles, make you run week long tests, and when you call back you get a totally different person that has no idea what the previous person told you to do.  I had an air chamber that leaked.  I switched hoses and confirmed it was the air chamber.  Figured it would be a simple service call.  Nope.  Was told to fill the chamber and disconnect the hose, wait a week, then hook it back up and see what the reading was.  I did that and called back.  The person that answered said I did the test wrong and I shouldn't have disconnected the hose because that let some air out which is why my readings were off.  WTF, I did exactly what the first person said.  So this person told me to fill it up, leave everything connected, and check it after a week.  I had already informed her that every day I had to add air to it because the number dropped.  They didn't care and wouldn't issue any parts.  I called back after a week and confirmed the results and was still told it could be the hose or a pump. Was told to switch the hoses and give it another week.  Again it didn't matter that I had already done this.  Four weeks in they finally admit it might be the air chamber and they would send a replacement.  About 5 days later I get a package but don't open it until the weekend when I have time to tear the bed apart.  The weekend comes, I open the package, they sent a pump and hoses.  Mother fuckers.  I call on Monday and tell them they sent the wrong parts.  The new air chamber came Friday.  I installed it over the weekend and everything was good.  Except I had to box up the pump and old air chamber and send it back.  That was 6 weeks of time wasted to replace an air chamber.  Thankfully it was before the 2 year mark.  Can you imagine having to pay for that level of service!

Summary:  I won't be buying another one.

Exactly.  You can save some money by just buying yourself an air mattress down at a camping supply store.  Also if your insistent on air beds, shop around.  Sleep Number isn't the only, nor first game in town.  They are just the ones that spend a shit-ton in advertising.  Owners fall into two categories, those that absolutely hate them and those the say they love them because they don't want to admit they just dropped $4K on a camping air mattress.

Do some googling and you'll have a days worth of reading.

10 years new pump no questions asked had it less then 24 hours on my door step.

edit, i see some parts are prorated but the pump is not that is why I did not have to pay.

Had ours for 8 yrs. Wife and I love it. If you get one, definitely get the pillow top. Our remotes lcd screen crapped out a couple of years ago. I haven't got it replaced yet. It still works though, just don't know what number its at. I have mine set around 75-80, wife is a 35-40.

I like mine.  I bought it as a refurb.  All fabrics new, but refurbished air bladders, pump.  They have a secret # to call to get a refurb unit for about 1/3 off.

A few years ago I developed back problems that had me seeing a chiropractor 3 days a week and having to use a cane just to walk across the room. My back was in bad shape and after a month the chiropractor couldnt understand why I wasnt seeing any relief. I finally asked if it could be my bed and we decided I needed a new bed (mattress was at least 20 years old).

I ended up with a sleep number bed and was pain free in less than a week. Read that again....I was hobbling around on a cane but was pain free in less than a week after buying the new bed. Yeah, I LOVE my sleep number bed.

They had a special deal going when I purchased mine. I think it was $1400 but they split the purchase price into 18 monthly payments with zero interest. Made buying it really easy.

My fiancee had one when we first met. I slept ok on it as did she. We moved and took it with us. Like was already mentioned, there's a foam support between the 2 air bladders. The bed was a queen size and I would sleep right next to her. I wound up collapsing the foam and creating a dent.

We've got a normal posturpedic mattress from Sam's Club now and the sleep number bed is in the attic in pieces.

we went through 3 conventional mattresses and add-on like memory foam before we got ours. probably going on 7 years now and we love it.

There are times you want firmer or not and you can adjust it.

The boarder has never bothered us, but when we get rough we make sure it's up to 100%
