So my bike (Triumph Daytona 675) uses 1 H7 and one H9.

I was planning on replacing the bulbs (still burning) with Philips Silverstars as I have them in my Yukon and they have shown a notable improvement in both color and visibility. However, Philips doesn't make any H9 bulbs better than their "Standard" bulb. WTF

I want to stick with a name brand as opposed to the eBay Specials out there.

I could still upgrade the H7 but I doubt it would give me THAT much more distance, after all, it's the low beam. As far as HID kits... not sure on that idea yet. I would rather have a straigh OEM replacement.

For a whiter light and a bit more distance what should I do?

HID or bust.

ETA: I run them in my XB12R

My Strom is said to have someof the best lights around. I added a spot and a flood from advmonster. Awesome lights

I've got  PIAA driving lights on my BMW. Next motorcycle will have HID auxiliary lights.

This. I have an H4 HI/LO.. Gives probably double the light output and uses less power... i used the Sylvania Silverstars and then the Sylvania ultra(the top one, i forget the name)...None were really any better than your run of the mill bulb.

PIAA bulbs will provide brighter light and somewhat greater beam distance. I installed a pair in my former Ducati ST4, a bike not noted for a bright headlight and found it to make a significant improvement. If you're not happy w/ the light on your bike, I would try that.

Last I heard, these are not DOT approved and thus illegal - is this still true?

HID upgrade FTW.  I ran high and low beam HID from Golden Eye that were plug and play in my CBR600RR.  The cagersWILL see you and not like the bright lights . . . .

I put a ddm 5k HID kit in my SV650S. Best mod ever if you do any night time riding, and they will catch your eye in broad daylight very well also even on low beams.

yeah on the Triumph forum I post in, everyone runs the DDM's. They seem to be a lot reliable than the initial ones I remember flooding the market.

Looks like they have come down in price, around $60 shipped vs $39 each for just PIAA bulbs.

May end up doing the DDM H7 35W 5000k and H9 55W 6000k

Just am a little gun shy about doing anything electrical right now (think voltage regulator is effing with the bike)

Why are these DDM kits ~$200 less than other HID kits?

I think that you're right.

Any HID 'upgrade' that doesn't include new reflector/lens assemblies is going to be about what you'd get from running high beams even on low beam.

Done right, they can be a good setup.  Most so called 'upgrades' are not done right.

How does that work at night?  Is it really safer to blind oncoming drivers?

What would you call a cage driver who left his high beams on all the time?

I run an off-road halogen bulb in my Sportster, I can't recall the wattage rating, but it does wonders at night versus the standard sealed-beam.

Aimed properly, it doesn't bother passing motorists much. Not any worse than say the newer Ford trucks with the insanely bright headlights at mirror/eye-level.

Don't think a halogen is anywhere close to as bright as true HID setups...

The Daytona 675 has factory projector lenses, which are required to really benefit from an HID kit. I had a set in my 675, greatest mod ever IMHO

For the naysayers, cars with factory HID lights run them through a projector lense, so his lights won't have the blinding glare like most other applications

What exactly are you running in the Sporty? I have a '03 and I'm looking to upgrade the headlight as well.

My BMW has one H7 each for hi and lo and run these:

plus the Micro Flooter H3 auxilliary lights:

In reference to the ebay listing
A tinted/colored bulb is going to emit less light than a clear bulb. Why are they tinted blue? Because they are bullshit perhaps,  just creating an illusion that they are somehow like HID?

I am not saying they are bullshit but I sometimes like to use logic. Tint reduces light transmission is that not a fact? are these bulbs tinted? Have the people that claim they are so bright  been fooled by the bluish HID look?

Big bonus there. I don't ride anymore, but I still worry about you guys that do. I lost a good friend to some dumb bitch that "didn't see him".

Mine has factory projectors. Thought the 675 did too.

On the flip side, I would not allow a dumb law effect my safety on a motorcycle. My exhaust is over the db limit and my taillight blinks too fast when I key it up.

The way I look at it, If a driver is annoyed by you, they see you. That is what matters to me.

They work extrememly well at night, probably doubled range and width of my lights.

FWIW I've never had anyone flash their brights at me, which happens all the time with the stock headlights in my 07 Dodge truck.

Which is why I run with the brights on during the day. FWIW, I have the Silverstar in my Shadow.

You can legally run HID spotlites, but converting lights is illegal, and for good reason.  The ONLY HID headlights that are legal are the ones that come on the car from the factory, they are DOT approved.  I had an Accura with HID headlights for 10 years, they are waaaaay overhyped.

The bucket and bulb assembly was a generic no-name product from JC Whitney, purchased around 2002. I can't even find the exact product on their website now. It was labelled for off-road use, and the bulb as like 100/70w or 110/70w. It works well for what it is, was slim enough to fit in the housing, and did not require rewiring a 1977-era harness.

I almost went with the accessory driving lights mounted off my pegs, but at the time I wasn't able to find a set that blended well with the ride-height.
