Well, gents i need an answer; which is the better weapon out of the box?
I know the SKS is a "tough as nails'', fairly accurate and hard hitting weapon. But its heavy, has only 10 rounds, longer to reload even with stripper clips, and is honestly a dated weapon. The out of box Saiga seems equally tough (though to be honest i really don't know) better ammo capacity, lighter, costumisable yada yada, BUT it is an AK (sort of) so accuracy might be an issue. They're both about $350. Im going to get at least one of either within the next month. What say you hive mind? what say you? |

SKS's are now $350? Some are around $200 if you can find them. Holy cow I had no idea they were so much. I just checked out the EE and they are 325-400 for a damn SKS. Crazy. I haven't shot mine in probably 10 years. I've always considered it a handout or throwaway gun. |

Do the Saigas accept high capacity mags out of the box? As accurate as my Yugo SKS is I would take the Saiga. http://www.ehow.com/how_6629856_make-saiga-7_62x39-ak-mags.html |

They are both good guns. If you get an SKS please keep it stoock. They work great if you don't change anything.
I would prefer the Saiga myself. Even if you don't upgrade it, there are plenty of potential buyers down the line that might want it for a project rifle someday. If it has trigger slap it takes about 30 minutes to drop in a G2 FCG. If you are careful, you can correct it without spending the $35. I would recommend that you do like me and get both. |

Quoted: This.An SKS has a fixed magazine so you never have to worry about detachable magazine. Of course there are draw backs but 10 rds of 7.62x39 is a lot of firepower. Replace the stock 10 round with one of those 20 round fixed Chinese magazines and you have one hell of a weapon. |

However, as a rule i like to keep my gun related stuff as compatable as possible |

SKS's are now $350? I've seen higher. I bought mine in 2006 for $150, and at the time I thought I was getting screwed, having seen ads in SGN a year or so earlier for $90. Its the only gun I could sell in its current configuration and make a profit on. OP: Since the price is the same between the two, go with the Saiga. Its easier to load and the safety is easier to manipulate. |

I hear the AR 15 version is pretty decent. I'd go with that.

Both my CZ, and M10 can do that at 100 yards, but fall apart after when I move to the 300 yard range. Good short range round I will give you that. They make good truck guns. Most rounds with a .265 BC will do that. Still carries more energy than the .223 at the same price to shoot. However, it was not designed for 300+ yd shots. It's an intermediate caliber and has great barrier qualities. |
