Not such a wet planet: Picture shows how all the water on Earth would fit into one 860-mile-wide ball

Interesting...

That graphic makes the 'water delivered by comets in the late heavy bombardment' theory seem completely feasible.

Wow, the oceans aren't so deep compared to the diameter of the earth.

Sobering and kinda scary , I'd like to see it split up between fresh and salt water.  water wars look like a certainty at some point.

Think about it: The deepest spot in the ocean is what 7 miles deep? How far does 7 miles stretch on the surface of the globe?

Well obviously we'd need to start a lottery to decide who should die so there's enough resources for others to live on.

Volume vs Surface area might have something to do with it.

Them being fulla shit might have something to do with it too. Maybe that's how big of a ball of bullshit they could make if they rolled all thier bullshit into one ball.

Does my math suck? 333,038,142.4314 Cubic Miles?

ETA- According to wiki answers, the Earth's surface is 196,939,900 square miles. So that 860 mile diameter ball of water could cover the entire Earth's surface with 1.6911 miles of water. I think...

That ball looks a lot bigger than 860 miles across. And Salt Lake City to Topeka is about 1050 miles.

This is the USGS making these calculations?

I believe in the biblical account of a global flood, so I'm with you. Plus, the atmosphere holds water. And truth be told, no one can say that there aren't vast underground deposits of water not accounted for here.

Yeah, but a lot of water is undrinkable.

Do you want to drink out of the Ganges River in India?

V= 4/3 Pi r cubed.

r = 430. 430x430x430 = 79,507,000

79,507,000 x Pi = 249,778,607

249,778,607 x 4 = 999,114,428

999,114,428 / 3 = 333,038,142 cu miles

Interesting to think that if Europa is indeed made of H2O under the ice, as has been theorized, that it is estimated that it'd have about twice as much as the Earth.
