[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Ken Block going crazy (Page 1 of 2)

Thanks for the imbed. Yes, he has skills. I'd like to see him do that on the skreets of New Orleans.
|
| I'm not saying he isn't a good driver but I absolutely despise his die hard fans who think he is the greatest rally driver that has ever lived, and gods own gift to the sport. If you ask these same people who Colin McRae, Tommi Makinen, or even Kimi Raikkonen is they would look at you like you're stupid. |
| Serious question... I don't follow WRC, don't know much about it. Block obviously has superhuman car control abilities, the videos and the stuff he did on Top Gear were just amazing. Why doesn't this translate in to success on the course? Are all of the rally guys that good, or does Block not do well with other cars on the track, or what? |

Block saw a gimmick to make him money. Others could do the same exact shit if they wanted, but they are full time racers and some that race in WRC also race in other venues such as F1 as well. Block on the other hand makes shoes and dicks around on the gymkhana course a bit too much. This by no means detracts from the fact that he is a good driver, just not the best. It's kinda sad though when you compare him to somebody like Travis Pastrana, whom has done pretty much everything under the sun (MX, Supermoto, Rally, you name it he's done it) and has had just as much success as Block, but has done so much more in other racing venues. |

His first video with the Subaru WRX sounds better. The Fiesta sounds like a swarm of angry hornets with shotguns. The WRX just sounds fucking sexy!

The WRX just sounds fucking sexy! http://youtu.be/rs-jAImScms It sounds like pissed off hornets with shotguns because of that nice little ALS switch you see in the beginning upon start up. The STi didn't sound like it had it. ALS or Anti lag system is basically a system that dumps fuel to be ignited in the exhaust ducting on decel to keep the turbo spooling even though you're foot isn't on the gas. A lot of rally car's use this so they can stay on the power and not worry about turbo lag. Also, comparing a Inline 4 with a flat 4 isn't really fair. The boxer rumble trumps the weed whacker sound everytime. |

Skills for sure.
Honestly, I didn't even know he was an actual racer. I thought he just did drifting exhibitions. Before the driving bit, I just knew him as the owner of DCSHOECO. I don't even wanna attempt what he did in that video. I just wanna be a passenger along for the ride.

I remember reading one of the old class B rally drivers did that just to show off for the fans and give them a good show. Still, the Boxer rumble is soooooooo much better than the i-4. |

Attend a local rally sometime. They are a hoot. And ALS can be hella loud. Sometimes rivaling gunfire.

They are a ton of fun to attend as a spectator sport. Rally is bar none my favorite spectator sport, with supermoto and motocross coming up in a close second and third. Also, it doesn't take much to get into amateur rallying |

Also, it doesn't take much to get into amateur rallying It probably takes money. Something I don't have. But there was this one time that I ripped the handbrake and did a perfect u-turn slide around a Wendy's drive-thru in the snow when I was about 18.
I'll have to Google some SCCA races and see what's close to me. I'd like to watch something like that. |

Kenny at Portugal round of WRC. Ouch. As for the best rally driver, currently, the last eight years say Loeb. Looking that way isn't it.
Citroen is definitely a hard team to beat. It also doesn't help that Mitsubishi and Subaru are basically bowing out of the whole rally scene which makes me a very sad panda. They haven't really been relevant since the days of Makinen and McRae. |

They haven't really been relevant since the days of Makinen and McRae. And the Mini debacle this year didn't help the field. I wish more manufacturers would jump back in with works teams, give Loeb and Citroen some real competition and get the Evo vs. WRX death match back on track. |

Ralliart and STi/Prodrive need to get their head out of their asses and get back to their roots. I'm tired of having a one horse town out on the circuit. I would hate to see the sport die, and all of the works teams pulling out isn't helping the end goal.

| The Gymkhana videos he has made are pretty wild. I think my favorite has to be the first one he did in the Los Angeles Pier, with him doing some wilds stunts on a heavily modded Subaru Imprezza; the newer ones he has done with the Ford FIesta re good, but not like the original one. |

Stand right behind the start line at a Motocross.....it's so angry sounding it makes you giddy....and the 30 second girl is usually a cute Monster Energy babe. |

Quoted: Quoted: Dont know the car setup, whats the big lever he keeps pulling on? Some sort of hand brake? On the dash seems to be a gear indicator and it looks like he is paddle shifting. You got it right. It's setup that way for quicker access. And more torque on the on the brake. |

Correct, I'm pretty sure it all started from the drifting crowd and then made it's way to other forms of racing such as rally. |

Block is a brilliant marketer lol... He never does much in wrc but has made Ford, subaru, monster, and dc millions. He is great at bringing people into whatever he's selling lol. He's good at gymkhana stuff but he's also the one who basically brought it mainstream.
Car is running 600ish hp & tq. So the drifting/ donuts aren't that hard to start. |

Fucking thieving bastards |

Exactly he's good at marketing and making money for poser dressers, but as a driver he sucks, not to mention he is a huge douche bag in real life, impossible to talk to. |
