I'm trying to break free of apple.  I've recently gotten into reading books on the iPad with ibooks.  i knew that was a mistake from the get go.  now that i have android devices infesting my life, i need something more platform independent.

i was considering nook.  it appears to have the reader on each platform including the mac or pc (which i don't think i can even read an ibook on my mac).  as well as can lend books too.

anyone else have a recommendation over nook before i jump ship?

The wife and I both have nook 1st editions. Love it.

They have a new nook Simple Touch with a back light. That has my interest. I would get one of those if my current nook dies.

well I'm mostly interested in using the nook application on my android, iPad, and because it will be available, my mac too.

im wondering how well it works going from device to device.  i will say the ibooks is cool, because i can put it down on the iPad, and pick it up on my iPhone and still be in the same place without having to do anything special.

I just picked up one of the refurb Kindle Fires for $139 with free shipping and I have been happy with it so far. It has a lot of features and the Amazon store to shop with a free month of Amazon Prime.
