would you take a dollar cut an hour?
If the new job had about 75 % less bullshit which makes you hate coming to work.
Everybody is not back stabbing and kissing ass to get better stuff.
Its a LEO job and the job has better equipment such as everyone has a tazer better uniforms all that.
The new department allows you to use the car and gas to go to the gym on your off time which is where I'm always at they also allow you to drive your car home which the department I'm at does not either.
so would the gas I'm about to save using the new department make up for the dollar a hour cut?
to me the huge cut in drama ad kiss ass back stabbing is worth the dollar cut.

This is my thoughts on changing one LE job for another (been a cop for 2 decades with same dept). Sometimes the Devil you know is better than the Devil you dont know.

That and dont forget that the grass is always greener where the dog shits, lol

Hell, if I could deal with 75% less bullshit, I'd take a $4/hr pay cut

The gas should be easy to figure. Would you use 8 bucks in gas every work day going to and from home and the gym? With current gas prices, that's less than 3 gallons. In a V8 cruiser, that gets maybe 17 MPG, well do the math.

$1/Hr over a normal (roughly) 2000 work hour year (50 weeks x 40 hrs/wk) is only $2k less a year.     If you can drive the car back and forth to work....you'd probably save that much in Gas.

You should enjoy your job, no matter what field you are in.

Only you can determine if the benefits/ positives  outweigh the negatives

Anyone recall if the effort to tax take homes as a bennie a few years ago went through? I don't recall.

If it did, I would think that would wipe out your fuel savings

Factor in the savings in mileage on your POV. You'll likely come out ahead. Keep in mind though, bennies can be given, and bennies can be taken away.

do it!!! no wear and tear on your car! no gas spending! and more comfortable work conditions, i would give my left nut for a job like that right now... i spend 400 a month on gas plus wear and tear on the truck...

How many hours do you work?  $1/hr at a 40 hour per week job is going to amount to $30 or so less a week with taxes considered.  That definitely sounds like it's worth it for less stress.

ETA:  I just read where you'd be saving $50 a week in gas, so that means you'd be making $20 a week MORE.  Go for it!

What dept's area has more badge bunnies and MILFs?
More Seriously, how does the retirement stack up?

Money is a factor. How you weight in your analysis is your decision.  For me it's really never been about the money but I've been lucky I guess. 21 years in the Mil and the money was what it was. Now retired I'm doing much better financially but more importantly I've found work that keeps me close to the "fight". That's very important to me.

To be honest, over the years I've taken (at times) significant pay cuts to do what was right and work with a team that was worth working with. In the long run it's seemed to pay off.

I demoted myself and took a $2 pay cut one time.

I BEGGED for a demotion. I was doing 5x as much work with no possibility for advancement. I said fuck this and stepped down.

Yes, I would do it. Money is not everything.

Yep, I took a pay cut for a transfer out of my old job last year. Less bullshit, plus it's a day job with weekends and holidays off. I'm winning.

Non LEO, but I gave up close to that and a company truck 4 years ago and have been really pleased with the decision. Stress and unhappiness can seriously mess you up. You spend too much time at work to be unhappy with you  job, unless you're making a killing.  As a LEO, I'm guessing you're not making a killing (no pun intended).

In order to deal with less bullshit I probably would. The extra car benefits sounds good to.

Last month I turned down a promotion. It would be about $.50/hr pay cut and more bullshit. The pay cut comes from losing the extra dollar an hour I get paid for working overnight.
