Almost had to shoot a pitbull a few minutes ago. Went to take out my trash in the alley behind the house and the neighbors dog behind my house was barking. Next thing I know the dog is on top of the block wall growling barking and baring it's teeth at me. I pulled out my pistol and and kept my distance with the dog in the sights in case the fucker jumped down. When it looked like it was going to hop down a few times I yelled at it and it stoped and decided to continue barking instead of jumping down. Managed to make it into my backyard without getting bit. Just a reminder that even taking out the trash you should have a gun on you. Should I leave a note on the door to let them know that if that happens again and the dog jumps down Im going to have to shoot it? Seems like something that if I say in person might cause drama. People dont' like to be told your going to shoot their "harmless" little baby. Im not fond of having to draw down with adrenaline dump every time I need to take the trash out and I live by a park full of kids not 100 yards away.. THis dog is a threat. |

Quoted: Glad you're ok dude. If it was my dog I'd definitely prefer a note and a chance to fix my fence then a dead dog. Yeah I don't want to shoot the dog. Im assuming they left something up against the back wall it climbed up on because it was pretty hesitant to jump down. This just needs to not happen again. |

Quoted:
I wouldn't tell them you will shoot the dog. Can be perceived as a threat or used against you. Just tell them in the note about the incident. What comes after that is their own fault Put me down for this. Probably a bad idea to mention shooting the dog, but you could certainly mention "serious consequences" if they don't control their animal next time. |

What comes after that is their own fault Consider the fact that many people don't give a fuck if they don't see a personal cost to them. You should mention the potential consequences, vaguely. "I'm a dog person and would prefer never to hurt one, even in self defense", or something.
