Pretty soon I will be in the market for my first pistol. I'm thinking I mostly want a tactical because Michigan now allows suppressors. And no, I am sorry, but I'm not interested in a Glock or 1911.  Of course I am going to goto the indoor shooting range and rent various ones to see which one fits me best, but still. I'd like some opinions. ETA: Sorry, I mistyped the question in the poll, obviously I ment to say "Pistol" not "Piston" |

Well, on your list, I've owned and/or shot all of the guns on your list of choices other than particular CZ models (only have experience with the 75B), and I currently only own M&Ps and 1911s. I think the USP is a better gun than the M&P, in every category, but that the M&P was satisfactory in every category at a better price, with better aftermarket support, and more options. I think the CZs are fine guns as well, but again, low aftermarket support compared to the S&W. I don't like the way Sigs feel in my hand and I went from owning 5 XDs to owning 0 XDs.
So, M&P or HK are my recommendations. |
| Well, I don't know about pistons, but I wouldn't count out a 1911 until you shoot one. I get the magazine capacity thing, but I just LOVE the way a 1911 feels in the hand, it's just natural to me, and it wasn't the first center fire pistol I shot. I have a 226 and 92 and they are fine pistols too. |

I'm a 1911 guy, I'll admit. Although, I wouldnt ever get rid of my Glock 19. It's not great at anything, but you can use it anywhere for any purpose. It's a love/hate thing with me. |

But I'll at least give the Glock a shot, very highly doubt I'll want it. Again, I want something that is a streamlined, comfortable design. |

The CZ 75 family of pistols are OUTSTANDING shooters. They're very durable, they're very reliable, and they're very accurate. The ergos are pretty damn good, too. They are hands down the best handguns for the money. That said, I'm not sure how I feel about suppressing one. This may sound crazy, but the idea of suppressing a pistol that uses Browning's tilt locking system strikes me as odd. It may be completely irrational on my part, but that just seems like a less than great idea. Hopefully, one of Arfcom's braniacs will step in and school me on the subject. I think the Beretta 92 would make an awesome suppressor host. 1) It uses the falling locking block system first seen on the P38. 2) They're natural pointing mild mannered handguns. 3) It's just a sexy combo.

If you really want to play with a silencer, get a .22 or a .45. Subsonic rounds are common and inexpensive for both calibers. The pressures are relatively low, so there is less sound. For whatever reason, when silencers started to get popular, gun stores jacked the price on 147 grain 9mm rounds. These are subsonic, but the FMJ stuff costs the same as the 115 grain ammunition. They just figure that if you can afford the can, you can afford to spend more on ammo.
If you want a silenced gun, get a .22 and shoot it cheap all day long. If you want centerfire, P-220. |

Again, I want something that is a streamlined, comfortable design. If money is no object, one of the HK45c tactical models would be perfect. Or a P30 with a threaded barrel if you like 9mm |

Yeah know, I've heard several people say the P-220 is the best handgun they ever shot. I'll definitely look into that. |

You gotta try to find a rental to try out pistols.
Depending on what you're into, from your list I'm partial to the M&Ps, CZ, or some of the Sigs. If you don't like the 1911 due to the small capacity, the 220 has the same issue. <-not a glock or 1911 fan either. ETA: tbk1 has a good one. Despite all the crap the 92FS/M-9 gets, it is one darn easy to shoot pistol. I actually just picked up a civvy M-9 as my fun 9mm. |

Rock Island has 1911's that are more reliable than the $1Kimbers and can be had at a decent price. |

They are usually very reliable (magazine issues aside) and they point quite naturally. They are also easy to find used*, so they are a great option for somebody on a budget or looking for a beater gun. *I think the G model is the best, but those aren't so easy to find.

You can find 147gr 9mm easily all day long for under $15 a box/50. Is 230gr .45 that cheap? I didn't think it was, but I haven't bought any .45 since I sold my 1911 to buy the Osprey pictured above. Then again, I'm with ya on the .22. Again, see above.

| My vote goes the Beretta 92 series (I'm a recent convert) but of your list I really enjoy shooting my buddy's CZ and I owned a Sig and liked it but couldn't get used to the slide release as a lefty. I would also suggest looking into used Hi-Powers. Good luck on making a decision. |
| Yeah if you are looking for a modern tactical .45acp pistol to be used as a suppressor host it is really tough to beat the FN FNP-45 Tactical pistol. I really love mine and am running a Silencerco Osprey 45 suppressor with it, awesome combo for sure. I get so many compliments on this setup. I also have a Beretta 92FS INOX with AAC Evo9 suppressor that I really like as well. I have a factory Beretta 30rd mag which is awesome and 9mm with subsonic ammo is really quiet and still cheaper to shoot than .45acp ammo. Of course I can use any cheap .45acp and it works great suppressed and hits the targets hard. |
