| Hey guys a family member is one of those movie fiends. They purchase all the dvds when they come out, so suffice to say they've got a bunch of folders from over the years. I'm looking for a way to get them all onto something more compact. I thought I remembered seeing a central hub device similar to a harddrive that you plug into your tv and can store all your dvds there and then throw away the dvd disks. Also, if that isn't reality, how would I go about hooking up a one terrabyte harddrive onto a wii or xbox 360? |
| You want to look at getting a htpc. Each movie would be about 2 gig after ripping. I'm not sure if making a personal backup is legal anymore. If used to be but I haven't followed in a while. Either way he might want to keep the originals on hand in the very rare case that something happens. |

It must be quite large with buying all the new releases and the subseqent re-releases of movies on new formats. Plus finding shit is easier with a search. |

I have 3 1 TB hard drives full of movies and a 2 Tb with Tv shows on it. Only 500g of music though Well they have kids so what would be the best method to store dvds. I'm thinking hard drive, but linking from hd to tv is the problem. It would be nice if it had a search function etc. |

Either way there would need to be a computer in the mix |

| Keep in mind I'm not the most computer savy person, but why not just take a pc tower and fill it full of RAM and hard drives. Put a HDMI connector on it and you can navigate w/ a wireless mouse and keyboard. I seen a show once about expensive yachts. The owner of one also owned Blockbuster. They said his yacht had a bunch of movies on an on board computer and could be accessed through any tv on the boat. On day I'm going try w/ an old tower I have. |

Would be neat, that is a bit above my capabilities though. |
