My wife and I have had directv service for approx. 9 months and are in a 2 year contract with them. We just recently decided to buy a house and try and take advantage of their "mover's deal" which includes Whole-Home DVR and Free Movie channels for a few months. I was really only interested in the DVR as we don't have it and wanted to upgrade. After being on the phone for a short amount of time I found that I was unable to upgrade because I needed to spend $200 to upgrade to a DVR reciever so I just settled for the move.
All in all I was unable to upgrade or get anything for free, however they are going to charge me $130 just to move my DirecTV service across town!!! Needlss to say, I am very unhappy as a directv customer and I wish I was no longer under contract. |

While the product is pretty damn good, customer service and contracts utterly suck ass.
Currently trying to work through a cluster fuck with Directv on behalf of a client. They sent two of the wrong receivers the first time, I called and asked to return the wrong ones and order the correct parts, also adding another receiver. They charged $99 ea for the 3 receivers that I needed, when they arrived they were the wrong ones again! Called and bitched and their response was "we cannot guarantee specific equipment". I need specific equipment (the tiny HD receivers) because we are putting them behind wall mounted tvs. Had to go and spend another $300 to get the correct ones via a distributor. So now I have $500 in unused satellite equipment sitting in my garage that nobody at Directv wants to deal with. I can hardly wait to give them another call, wade through the bullshit phone system and see if I win the mouth breather CSR lottery and get somebody who understands exactly what the hell I am trying to accomplish. |

Contact customer retention, Talk to them, tell them you are very dis-satisfied and you may get free DVR and Move. Worked for us, just told them that we were going with Dish Network.

Why the hell do you have to pay anything to move it? Take it with you and set it up at your new home. It's not that hard.
I put my dish on the deck railing out back. So when the snow sticks to it I can just open the door, take a few steps and hit it with the broom. |
