The company I work for looks to be a sinking ship and I really don't know what I am going to do if that happens. I don't see myself being able to turn the last 8 years of experience here into another well paying job.
I've decided I need to go back to school and get a degree. Currently I am looking at the Computing and Information Technology AAS degree at the community college. Here is the degree sheet. I am planning on talking to a counselor soon but I've seen a lot of people here in IT/Programming fields so I figured I would ask for your input. Is this something worth pursuing? It seems like I can specialize in several different areas with this degree. The programming probably interests me the most but everything I read says you really need a 4 year degree to get a programming job. Transferring to the university for a bachelors is something I would like to do eventually but I am trying to find something that I can jump into with an associates degree and make at least $40k a year, For those that know the field what would you recommend? If anyone else has suggestions on a different 2 year degree I'd love to hear them. I've done some searching on the best associates degrees but it seems like a lot of the results I get end up too good to be true. For instance I recall seeing X-ray techs on a lot of the lists but everything I read says that the field is shrinking rapidly and even people that have decades of experience are having a difficult time finding a job. Here is the degree list at the community college. |
