The doc wants me to have a sleep study done,  Though I'm not convinced I need it.

When I went for the screening the only indicators were that
I snore and that I sometimes like to take a nap when I get home.

Now I think the desire to take a nap is due to not sleeping well from pain (I have a messed up back)
I take asthma medications, but that is because my lungs plug up (this happens anytime of the day)

I'm not really sleepy throughout the day and pretty much when I wake up,  I'm up and moving.

I just hope I'm not blowing $$$ for an unneeded test.

I've had one. I can't address the cost, as my insurer paid for it, but in my case they found my daytime sleepiness wasn't due to narcolepsy, which was key in deciding how to treat it.

Poor quality sleep will literally kill you.  Figure it out.

Most insurance companies will pay for it if prescribed by your doctor.  What they're looking for is sleap apnea, which untreated, can shave many years off your life.

Good luck trying to sleep with some 20 probes on your body and a shit load of some type of medical grease compound in your hair.

I used to snore enough to be herd on the first floor opposite of where i was sleeping, the machine fixed that issue, now I do not travel without it.

just went through 2. but people have complained about my snoring and stopping breathing since i was 19 (31 now). around 2 in the after noon i was getting tired, and by 8pm i was falling asleep and not realizing it. ignored the problem until i burned up my kitchen and if it wasn't for the dog, almost killing myself. not only that i was also depressed, feeling worthless, emotional, explosive anger etc. i went to see my Dr. about my depression, and the house fire came up. she told me she didn't think i was depressed at all, just sleep deprived. she said the afternoon naps i would take where not normal for my age.

the study found that i had an average of 38.5 waking events per hour, the worst hour i had 60.

all that being said, after the first night i used the cpap machine, i felt like running a marathon. it has made a huge difference in my quality of life. 8pm? I'm still ready to go. I'm not as angry, and my mood is mostly happiness where there was none before. i took to the mask right away. blood pressure has fallen to acceptable levels. i use to wake up chocking on my own puke, found out this was actually my lungs pumping my stomach due to the negative pressure created by my collapsed throat.

cost? my deductible plus shit ins wouldn't cover. $3000.00 out of pocket total. insurance paid out about $6,000.00. but that is a small price to pay for feeling 19 again.

i had little trouble with the probes. and the tech said even with the mask i snore like no one he has ever heard. lol i rattle windows. another thing my first study i had no REM cycle to speak of, in fact i never dreamt of anything. now i dream nightly.

I had one a few years ago but it came back negative.  Check your insurance.  The cost of my study was $6,000.  Insurance covered 90% of that cost.

I dream a lot, and Extremely vivid, even if I just take a nap I dream.

Being put on asthma meds has been good for me, but If i wake up to
take a leak and will use the rescue inhaler if my lungs feel gooped up.

My biggest issue is Humidity in high humidity I just cannot breathe.
Dry and cold I am in heaven, and I sleep like a baby.

well, the cpap machine they gave me has a humidifier in it. i was told never to use it without the humidifier. so that maybe an issue. but the air is really, really, dry out this way, so i found the humidified air being blown in my face refreshing. maybe not so much for you.

This.  I am 31 as well and wish I hadn't waited so long to address it. Knew I had it in my twenties,  but was still bullet proof.

I averaged 93 episodes per hour.

I use an apap machine. I did an O2 sat overnight test. I still average only 88% O2 sat when asleep. Doc will not send me for another sleep study.

CPAP user here too. Machine literally saved my life. Sleep studies are weird because the sleep tech
can see, hear and is monitoring you. I had a difficult time falling asleep in part 1 of my tests. The
sleep room was AWESOME though. Great beds, silk sheets, lcd darkening shades.

Part 2 of my test was like this. I showed up at 8 PM and got hooked up with 50 or so leads, bands
and connectors. I was harnessed in and put on the mask for the first time. The tech can remotely
control the pressure so he starts it off REAL low so you can sleep, then ramps it up to your unique
setting.  I woke up, said I had to go to the bathroom so he came in to "unhook" me. On the way to
the head he said I could go home when I got done whizzing. I thought I failed or something.  When I
asked him why he was cutting the test short, he laughed and said You dont have any idea what time
it is do you?  I slept like a sack of boulders from 8:50 PM to 8:30 AM and didnt even move.  He said
I was in REM sleep for rediculous amounts of time and even said I was in Z sleep (??) something he
rarely sees. I felt like I RULED the world that day.

I've worn one every single night since then for 6 straight years. I havn't missed a single day. It's the 1st
thing I pack when I travel. Think of it like this. MAybe a PITA but it's better than a colonoscopy!!

When I was getting hooked up. The girl kept repeating we will be watching you. Make you wonder if that actually happens.
