I moved to MS in January, and finally have access to an outdoor range. I quickly grew tired of paper targets, and purchased some auto-poppers from MGM Targets. I went with 2 Colt Speed Plates, and 1 Standard Shape. I've had them for a few months and have been very happy with them. I've used this one at 100 yards for practice with my ARs. The manufacturer rates them for rifle fire, but cautions that it will dimple eventually. I've marked it so I only ruin one, but as you can see, even after ~1000 rounds its still in great shape. MGM warrants the targets for life if you only use pistol rounds. As you can see, the 3/8" AR500 isn't phased by 9mm. I've shot these as close as 5 yards with no major issues. You'll get some splash back, but nothing eye protection won't stop. Stings a little on exposed skin ![]() I wholeheartedly recommend the Auto-Popper from MGM. Great targets and great people to deal with. The springs and weight of targets are designed for centerfire cartridges. I've shot .22LR at them, and they ding, but won't go down. MGM makes targets especially for rimfire, but I decided to buy a Do All Outdoor self healing "Top Hat" target. Have only shot ~300 rounds of .22LR through it, but it seems to be holding up ok. Very entertaining to shoot. Had no problems making it dance at 25 yards with rimfire pistols or rifles. It was $20 at Academy, which I think is a little steep for a piece of plastic, but it sure lasts longer than golf balls or soda cans. Also available at Midway USA Here's an overall view of the unimproved pistol bay I was using. I prefer this setup to the improved bays with a covered line that are available at the club. Hardly anyone uses this bay, so I can move and shoot, and vary the range I'm firing from while still keeping the targets close to the berm. Since this bay is unimproved I have to make due with my redneck shooting bench (which happens to double as an F150 tailgate) Hope you enjoyed this distraction from the usual lunacy of GD |
