Seriously, how active are you on it? I have an account, but I just created one to see how to do it. I don't live on it. I can't stand FB.

[#1]
I communicate with lot of people via facebook.

It's a great tool.

[#2]
I don't like it because of my career.  Too easy for employers to look at your page and see who you are and who you associate with.  All I ever did was create an account to look people up, no pics, no wall, nothing but the minimum info.
3/29/2012 10:05:11 PM EDT
[#3]
Only use it anymore to contact people I'm not close enough with for it to be worthwhile to keep their phone number on hand.
3/29/2012 10:08:34 PM EDT
[#4]
I had to make an account because of a family member libeling myself online. I've documented proof and posted it. The family member has deleted their account and started another under a different name.

Wish there was a way to figure that out and post a defense. It's funny when someone talks shit, you post real proof and they tuck tail and run.

[#5]
An account for a public diary? None.
I enjoy my privacy.
3/29/2012 10:16:59 PM EDT
[#6]
I use it daily... and I don't know why.

I only KEEP it because I have friends all over the country from the military, and I'm doing an open-ended motorcycle trip around the country in a few months.  Those friends may have a couch to sleep on or a backyard I can pitch my tent in (no homo ).

After the trip, I'll probably get rid of it.  The friends I really want to keep in touch with, I can keep in touch with on my phone.
3/29/2012 10:18:08 PM EDT
[#7]
I have been seriously thinking of deleting mine. Social media has gone way over board
3/29/2012 10:20:03 PM EDT
[#8]
I use it daily for messaging and chatting but only look at the news feed because of timeline making pages unreadable.
3/29/2012 10:33:49 PM EDT
[#9]
It's a great tool to keep up with friends and family.  Especially when separated over long distances.

It's a tool, nothing more.

However, it behooves everyone to remember that anything posted on the net is forever.

Social media is the debbil.
3/29/2012 11:04:03 PM EDT
[#11]
Keeps me entertained and connected to people I would otherwise not talk to.
3/29/2012 11:30:58 PM EDT
[#12]
Personally, I will not do Facebook. I've found that social networks like that are just a liability instead of an asset. I don't begrudge those that do use it. I just get aggrivated at people who pester me into signing up...
3/29/2012 11:45:27 PM EDT
[#13]
I look at it every day. I do not have much on my profile but really.. anything posted is to much.
3/29/2012 11:49:41 PM EDT
[#14]
It's a good way for me to see what's going on with my friends and family back home.

Plus I'm kicking ass on War Commander!
3/29/2012 11:52:58 PM EDT
[#15]
They kicked me off because they did not believe my name is aimless loveablepenguin. Bastards.

Can't say as I miss it

[#16]

I opened an account for the sole purpose of being able to access a "group" page that I wanted to see. However, after several instances of viral infections, spam, and another several instances of attempts to access my account by persons unknown, I deleted it.

I can honestly see no reason to share my private life with the entire fucking world online. If my friends want to keep in touch, they can use the phone or my e-mail address.

Privacy is becoming a thing of the past, and rapidly. People will wake up soon enough, when the "knock on the door" comes late at night, and they disappear from Facebook (and everywhere else) permanently.

I had a page when it first came out.  I never really used it much, so I ended up deleting my account.  It was kinda cool to catch up with some people from highschool, but all in all, meh............everyone I give a shit about has my phone # anyway.  My girlfriend uses it alot.  Has the app on her phone and all that.  Sometimes I'll sign into her account and argue with a libtard teacher we had in school.  That's always fun.

It's a good way for me to see what's going on with my friends and family back home.

This, plus I stay in touch with Army buddies all over the world.
My profile is set to max. security, so I can not be found when somebody looks up my name.
3/30/2012 12:47:50 AM EDT
[#19]
I had one under an assumed name while my nephew was Afghanistan.  Deleted it when he got home.
3/30/2012 1:05:37 AM EDT
[#20]
I use it daily. I keep in touch with family that lives a long ways from me, reconnected with childhood friends, keep informed by politicians and companies, etc. I don't post anything I'd be ashamed to seeon the front page of the newspaper and the only "drama" has come from the girlfriend of a teenaged nephew..it was easily blocked.I've also never had a virus, and block application requests.

Its what you make of it.

This. All of this.
I don't "check in" when I'm going out, I don't really even post status updates. But it is a good tool to communicate with friends and family.
Lock down all of the privacy settings as much as you can and it's a pretty reasonable tool.

I'm sure there are those here who do not believe that as well.
I am not one of them

I've never even thought about going there. No interest in that sort of thing.

I have an account, mainly to keep in touch with people. I have lived all over the place and it's the easiest way to keep in touch. Unless I get messaged I am on there about once every week or two.

ETA: OP, Can you add a poll on this to the thread?

Have it, use it and like it

Have it, use it and hate it

Have it and do not use it

Do not have it

yep

though I'm not very active.... use it to keep in touch with Marine Corps/School buddies..... easier to throw pics on there sometimes - also keep in touch with my parents who spend 6 months of the year away (they're WAY more active than I am on it, in fact)

It's got its place in my life. Great for finding people you forgot about from childhood, etc., but I sure don't care about reading every detail about people's lives.

You mean like 25k+ posts  in GD?

FB is entirely what you make of it. Don't want to use your real name-don't,most of the cops I know use their first and middle -mom's maiden etc names for example - don't want to "check in" anywhere, don't - don't want to post pics of your house/car/gun collection, don't - don't need to talk to someone from 8th grade, don't - don't want to play Whateverville, don't.

I don't "friend" anyone I don't know enough to want to speak to. If someone bores/bothers me they get the X clicked to hide or defriend,it's not a big deal. Whatever though, nobody will force you to use it. I've reconnected with dozens of people I wish I'd kept in contact with but for various reasons hadn't. I don't post BS and don't want it in return. If someone uses it like they're a teenager, blaming FB for it is the same as only using your phone for txting ur BFF.

Facebook is great for those Justin Bieber fan types that just can't go more than 5 minutes without reading their friend status updates.

Like OMG cell phone's just aren't enough.
