Why did you shoot it like that? Afraid it was going to blow up or something?

I don't see a problem with it. It's a Mauser. There are millions of them out there, in much better condition than that one appears to be. You can get them dirt cheap if you shop around. If it's a rare variant or something, that's one thing. But just another Mauser off the used rack? I don't see the cause for concern if someone wants to customize one. It's not like there are only a few left in existence.

here is what my Mauser project looked like

1. VZ-24 shot out barrel
2. new 7x57 barrel
3. walnut stock blank
4. sent all these to a local gunsmith
5. add Leupold VX-II
6. no muzzle brake since its not a Swedish M1940 Mauser

=WINNING with this

shown with another VZ-24

aside from this, have fun with your Mauser OP

I'm actualy suprised so many don't like it. It was screwed up to start with, the scope mounts were drilled crooked and the stock was fubar.

I was being semi serious about the extended mag and some kind of sight. There's a member here who posted pics of an old short barrel Mauser or something that he stuck an extended mag on and painted a bio hazard symbol on the stock. Thing was badass.

Fixed circa 1960.

If it was in really crappy condition or already halfway Bubba'd, whatever.  In that case, do what you have/want to to get it shooting (I'm in a similar boat with a Remington 03A3).  There's a reason this is generally frowned upon, though.

It was bad enough. If I wanted to turn it back to original it would have taken all these parts.
Bolt body
Barrel
Plug the receiver holes
Stock
Buttplate w/ both screws
Upper barrel band
Lower barrel band
Band spring
Front sight and post
Rear sight and post, plus set screws and silver solder.
Bayonet lug
Bayonet lug pin
Handguard
Both guard capture screws.

I can see that I shouldn't post photos of my #1,Mk 3 Enfield. It's a 1913 BSA that spent the last 12 years as a barreled action sitting in the corner with all my fishing poles, take off barrels and cleaning rods.
The barrel is short about 1/2 inch, apparently to get good rifling at the crown. It wouldn't fit in a military stock as it is now.

I finally got tried of it being totally useless and put an ATI plastic stock on it so I could SHOOT it. Doesn't look TOO bad IMO. Total $ = about 100.00

I won't post a pic,  it will save the milspec guys some heartburn.

Well the muzzle brake works. Hardly any recoil, just about the same as an AR.
Need to double up on ear pro though. I just had plugs the first few shots. Need earmuffs too or you'll get a nice ring.
