Remington Walmart special. I have shot thousands of rounds of this stuff with only the occasional dud. I am guessing that this is an extremely rare defect. In all honesty its probably a bad lot. I'd give Remington a call. This. Remington has more than its share of duds. The stuff is not consistent, but I do not believe they intentionally make dangerous ammo. |

Agreed, I bet that in the collective millions of rounds of this stuff we have shot nobody has had this happen. |

After pulling many apart I've discovered that the problem is an inconsistency of the primer in the actual rim of the cartridge. |

<> Being done with that gun for the rest of the day I borrowed my buddies Norinco Browning BAR 22 knockoff. <> ooooohh Pictures of that please!! I didn't think to get pics of it because the gun wasn't damaged, however the front sight dovetail is canted so much that you have to guess where to aim. |

Have fun digging that sliver of brass out of your hand. I'd almost bet you have a shard embedded. Keep an eye on how it heals. I know of a case in which the anvil from a blown centerfire primer embedded in a guy's chest and caused all kinds of medical problems that were traced to the priming compounds on the anvil causing a reaction in the body. I think the odds of that happening to you are almost nil, but thought I'd mention it...one good thing is that it was probably hot enough to be sterile. |

And as soon as I read where it was .22 ammo that caused a problem I knew it was Remington Golden bulk pack. I have shot tens if not hundreds of thousand rounds of .22 ammo and Remington is one brand I refuse to buy or shoot. Very inconsistent loading, some go bang, some go boom, some go pop, and some are duds. All out of the same box. Friends don't let friends shoot Remington Golden ammo. |

If I remember correctly our last KB thread over here (in the.22lr forum) was with Remington. I stopped using it years ago because it was the highest dud-to-good ratio of any of the ammo brands. In addition to that those that do shoot were inconsistent as anything as to ejection force (never had a KB with it myself) . I do not have a chrony but this lead me to believe that there was varying charges of powder present.
I know that there are many here that swear Remington's good stuff, and maybe now a days it is better than when I was using it, but threads like this one lead me to believe that they have only gotten worst. If better alternatives out there why are these still used? OP- glad you were not hurt anymore than that. |
