based on OP's criteria, I agree 100% Seiko automatics are the best bang for the buck until you step up to the $3,000-$5,000 watches. Absolutely no shame in wearing them anywhere. They are "real" watches, unlike the "fashion" watches in the same price bracket such as Invicta. |
| Seikos are great. I have a spork. Any of their large selection of dive watches will make you happy. They're all (i think) good to 100M water resistance. Good enuf for most of us. |

I have manyu examples of the Vostok Amphibian, best watch for the money(@$80 shipped from Russia), IMHO. Stainless case, autowind, purely mechanical, waterproof to 200m, and many combinations of case and dials to choose from, made in Russia.... http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj250/dugandjess/P1000153.jpg Can you post the website where you ordered the watch |

Good looks, has some weight to it and is built to last. MPD165 |

My Seiko Sports 5 keeps much better time, almost as accurate as my Rolex. |

Meranom
is in Chistopol where the watches are made. They are mechanical and accurate enough, not some battery powered POS. Yours probably needed to be regulated, a simple enough operation..... same dial but with the "420" case

My Seiko Sports 5 keeps much better time, almost as accurate as my Rolex. I am on my second Seiko 5, I just bought the current one, the other went seven years before being retired. It was on its last legs, the crystal finally got a crack, so when the springbar went instead of paying $5 to have it replaced I bought a new one for $55 shipped. As far as accuracy, the last one was the most accurate automatic I have ever owned, it gained about two minutes a month. I had a Vostok once that would gain five minutes a week, and only lasted two years before stopping. The Vostok wasn't bad, but as for quality, durability and accuracy it wasn't in the same league as the Seiko, more of a novelty or toy than a tool, more expensive than the Seiko as well. When I say my last Seiko 5 lasted seven years that may not sound terribly impressive compared to how many people have Rolexs or Omegas that have been working for decades, those watches probably aren't being worn daily, all day everyday. I dont' even take it off to take a shower. I work a fairly physical job, and when I fist picked that watch up I was working in garages, so yeah the watch took a beating. The Vostok may have been more accurate with a regulation, but having it regulated costs more than it cost to buy the watch. |

A five to 10 year factory service on a Seiko would keep it lasting decades just like the higher end watches. But who does that for a Seiko.
I've had a Seiko (Kinetic) have been very happy with. I wore it for 13 years before retiring it. The capacitor in it went bad at about 10 years. That was it. The crystal on it is still scratch free. |

I described my last Seiko and the abuse it saw, and it never lost any accuracy, and to this day all I have to do is give it a shake and it starts right up. I have no doubt that for a couple hundred bucks I could have it repaired, regulated and serviced to as good as new condition, but a watch that was actually new in the box was less than $60 shipped, and I wasn't sentimentally attached to the old one. |
