Is this a scam. This is the responce to a email I sent to the seller.
I was responding to a seller in the local paper. Hi there Dryroasted, Thank you for your interest in my 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe LTZ 4WD. The mileage is 44,489, and is still under warranty. The Tahoe is in excellent condition, no scratches, dents or hidden defects as well as the interior in excellent non-smoking condition and has an accident free history. Right now the Tahoe is in Edmonton, Canada and from here will be shipped. The price is so good because I recently divorced and it's hard to sell the Tahoe here because it's an US model with US specs (odometer is in mph, not kmph), still registered and titled in US, and the emissions standards are different from US standards. I have paid good money on it but due my personal problems I am willing to let it go for $9,800 US dollars. Shipping and handling fees to US will be $800 so the total price for you to receive it will be $10,600. Due to amount involved and the fact we can't deal in person, I suggest using the security provided by by Google Checkout (Checkout.Google.com). You can read more about Google Checkout on http://sites.google.com/site/howgcworks You will have the Tahoe for inspection and test drive BEFORE any money is released to me. That's the Google's procedure. Please forward any questions about the Tahoe or the transaction and I'll reply in a timely fashion. |

Yes it's a scam. site.google.com lets you create your own website, the page he sent you to is a page he created not an official google page. ETA: Reported that site to Google, lets hope they remove it soon. My favorite part of this is the website. The scammer put a fair amount of effort into it, but success is predicated on you believing that Google Checkout was developed SPECIFICALLY with used-car-buying in mind. The whole site is slanted to that purpose. |

Aside from the scam quotient, I've highlighted the "$800 to ship it is your problem, not mine" negotiation starting point. Yeah, I'd pass on buying a car unless I got to see it and drive it prior to any kind of exchange of money. |
